Veterinary Technician - Oakland

Fuzzy is a subscription-based pet health company, delivering world class veterinary care in the comfort of pets' homes. Our mission is to make pet healthcare more accessible, affordable and delightful. We do this through scheduled in-home vet checkups, a telemedicine app that allows members to chat with vets at any time and simply order goods (meds, food, supplements), and a digital pharmacy for prescription fulfillment and delivery directly to members’ homes. 

Fuzzy is looking for a Veterinary Assistant (VA) to serve as the right-hand person to our Veterinarians in the field. Our VA’s are always ready and willing to do what it takes to deliver top-quality in-home healthcare for our members, and doing so while acting as ambassadors for our brand. This role requires strong organization, a keen attention to detail, and a commitment to creating a top-tier member experience. The VA motto is to “always be appointment ready.”

Role responsibilities

Pre-appointment: 
  • Prepare member medical records before each appointment. Ensuring you and your team have everything needed to deliver seamless care 
  • Assist with data collection by requesting medical records from partner hospitals or contacting members for additional information about their pet 
  • The VA’s veterinary bag is critical to their success: watching supply levels and restocking when necessary, conducting regular bag audits, and preparing any specialty tools when necessary. 
  • Aim to arrive to all appointments on-time and keep your teammates to the same standard

During appointment: 
  • Serve as right-hand person to Veterinarians: prepping any tools and tests during appointments, holding animals during examinations, blood draws, and vaccines 
  • Be the eyes and ears: capture all relevant medical data during exams, and sign off on each appointment in a timely manner. Ideally, the veterinarian should only need to initial the medical record to approve it, with your effort comprising 98% of the work 
  • Update client and patient information in our medical record system after each appointment 
  • Develop a deep knowledge base of our service and ensure all member questions are addressed

Post-appointment: 
  • Update pet microchip database, ensuring it is accurate and up to date 
  • Keep all internal medical records up to date and proactively request any follow up vaccination or medical records, when needed 
  • Prep and send any needed vaccination or rabies certificates 
  • Communicate all member needs to HQ team as soon as possible: medication orders, membership activations, and any next touch points

Requirements

Experience in a fast-paced, high-quality veterinary environment, at least 1-2 years required
Licensed / registered technician (RVT candidates)
Open to working weekends
Excellent customer service skills (over the phone and in person)
Comfortable assisting in patient restraint (cats & dogs)
Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
Strong organizational skills
Keen attention to detail with an eye for continuously improving member experience
Team player with the ability to work effectively with multiple teams and furry animals
Knowledge of the SF Bay Area
Positive mindset and self-motivated
