Data Scientist

About the Job
We are changing the way people think about trucking.  Our proprietary internet-connected CarbonConnect™ hardware produces a rich stream of performance data from on-highway heavy-trucks.  Using this data, your job will be to design and implement a data and insights platform that powers innovative, data-driven products for the industry.

Candidates need to have 3-5 years of experience, with proven results in structuring, processing and visualizing raw data to create business impacting insights and supporting products.  This position will be based out of our office Redwood City, California.

About You
We are looking for a very curious data scientist who enjoys a deep dive into the raw data to ask the right set of questions and find the answers to those questions.  You will build tools and infrastructure that provide data cleansing & transformation, create statistical and predictive models and classifiers leading to actionable data and insights for new data products, as well as performance metrics to drive business and product improvements. 

What You’ll Do
  • You will own the analytical frameworks that drive decision making and direction for the product roadmap.
  • Build models from the ground up - from data exploration to feature engineering, model development + optimization, and deployment into production
  • Design rigorous experiments and interpret results to draw actionable conclusions
  • Work cross-functionally with team leaders (in Engineering, Product, Operations, Marketing, etc.) to explain your analysis and make recommendations
  • Facilitate objective decision making across the company by democratizing data through dashboards and other analytical tools
  • Operationalize data gathering and machine-learning infrastructure

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other quantitative field; advanced degree a plus
  • 3+ years of experience working as a data scientist
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques, especially deep understanding for their benefits and drawbacks in real-world applications
  • Excellent statistical intuition derived from practical, hands-on experience
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, PySpark, and ETL patterns and tools
  • Experience working on Cloud computing technology (AWS/Google Cloud/Microsoft Azure).
  • Experience building predictive systems.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and continuously changing environment.


Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with GIS data, including Google Maps Platform
  • Understanding of Big Data Technologies like Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark and MapReduce.
  • Knowledge in Transportation or Logistics domain.
