Workstead is seeking a Designer to join the team in our Brooklyn office.

The Designer should be self-motivated,  creative, highly organized, and well-rounded to join our team. Candidates must have solid knowledge of technical drawing standards and should have the ability to take direction from project managers to execute accurate, developed drawings, renderings and images for construction and presentation.


  • Assists the design team on projects from the Pre-Schematic Phase through Construction Documents 
  • Directly participate with Project Managers, Designers, and Principals to ensure projects are on schedule, on budget, reflects all client and project objectives 
  • Assist in managing client expectations, team communication and consultant coordination 
  • Show aptitude and interest in designing project components from concept to completion 
  • Research and collect materials for projects and work with vendors 
  • Work with project consultants, product representatives, and fabricators to meet overall project objectives
  • Assist with finish and material selections including fabrics, trims, furniture, lighting, fixtures, tile, plumbing fittings & fixtures, and accessories 
  • Develop FF&E packages – participating in the selection and documentation of furniture, fixtures, equipment, and material specifications 
  • Prepare finish material sample boards, physical models and graphic presentations for client approval. 
  • Contribute to office culture and initiatives 

  • Prepare test fits, space planning, and schematic design schemes by CAD Drafting, 3D model, and digital presentation packaging
  • Develop design development presentations for client meetings in 2D and 3D using AutoCAD for client review/approval
  • Prepare construction documentation; including drawings, schedules, specifications, and custom details in 2D and 3D using AutoCAD for client review/approval
  • Prepare casework and millwork drawings for custom cabinetry and built-ins
  • Create and manage schedules
  • Coordinate with outside consultants and vendors 
  • Assist in the constructions administration reviewing shop drawings and creating a master log of the project submittals 
  • Review shop drawings during CA phase 
  • Assist with answering RFIs and submittals during CA phase
  • Create and manage FF&E packages

  • AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (PS + ID), Microsoft Office, and Windows proficient
  • Provide excellent presentation skills including 2D and 3D rendering skills
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Architecture 
  • 3-5 years of experience, ideally on commercial projects
  • Current or imminent residency in NYC
  • Experience in creating finish and fixture schedules
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
