Position: Media Planner
Reports to: Group Media Director

The Media Planner assists in the development of media plans and is responsible for the day-to-day coordination/execution and management of the approved plans.
Major Responsibilities/Primary Functions
Assists with development and direction of integrated media strategy by analyzing marketing information; uses knowledge of demographic/geographic analyses to develop target and local market recommendations
Aids in strategic interpretation of media plan data/research by writing points-of-view
Issues RFPs (requests for proposal) to vendors across various media channels.
Collaborates closely with Media Buyers, Account Management and production departments to ensure timely execution of media plans.
Prepares estimates, insertion orders and buys specifications
Issues appropriate buy authorizations to broadcast and OOH buyers
Initiates negotiations with print and digital media for the most favorable rates, positioning and added-value merchandising.
Checks print publications for proper positioning and ad reproduction; conducts make-good negotiations with publications when necessary.
Generates, reviews and evaluates pre-buy and post-buy analyses in order to help determine future buys
Manage client budget records
Checks invoices and resolves invoice/buy discrepancies
Oversees/monitors media budget
Researches and prepares special reports in response to client requests
Evaluates new media opportunities and issues points-of-view
Presents, with supervision, tactical portions of media plans to clients
Directly delegates to and oversees the Assistant Media Planner
Develops and maintains strong working relationships with clients and vendors; meets with sales representatives to obtain information about their products
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of client’s business and individual product/campaign performance, prepares reports for client requests and opportunities as needed
Keeps abreast of current events, media trends and any target market industry trends that impact a client’s business
Qualifications, Distinguishing Characteristics and Special Requirements
Bachelor’s degree preferred with a concentration in advertising, marketing, business administration and communications
1+ years media experience in a creative advertising agency preferred
Strong math and analytical skills
Creative and innovative thinker
Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Prior knowledge of AdViews, Telmar, Donovan a plus but not required
Proven track records of gaining trust and respect by consistently demonstrating sound critical thinking
skills and maintaining composure in stressful situations
Exceptional written, verbal and negotiation skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of colleagues, vendors and clients
Exceptional initiative and attention to detail
Travel and after hours work required
