Chief Technology Officer

As our Chief Technology Officer, you’ll be responsible for the strategic technical direction and management of product development initiatives at UserTesting. You will set the vision and technology strategy that will enable us to achieve our goals of superior SaaS products delivered to our customers in a way that makes them easy to use but also readily able to scale across large organizations.  This position reports to the CEO and is a key member of the executive team. 

In this role you will:

Plan & Provide Direction 
  • Serve as the primary technical advisor for the business
  • Be a contributor and driver of our strategic plans and vision as well as operational plans and goals including projections and budgets
  • Oversee the development and execution of a technology roadmap to support our strategy and objectives; act as the primary communicator of that roadmap and our progress against it
  • Identify opportunities to make our business more efficient by outsourcing, automating, expanding, and localizing

  • Actively recruit top talent and maintain a pipeline of candidates for speed to hire
  • Drive decisions on resources and budgets for efficiency and ability to scale
  • Develop and foster a culture of speed and innovation along with resolving customer challenges
  • Mentor, train, coach, and help grow the team
  • Encourage, facilitate and monitor professional development
  • Set goals and objectives, monitor progress, and determine best use of resources
  • Give and get ongoing feedback and regular performance evaluation
  • Cultivate a collaborative, transparent culture where cross-functional teamwork is the norm

Technological Excellence
  • Understand our business, the markets we serve, and the customer so that Product and Engineering are effectively aligned to deliver excellent and scalable SaaS solutions
  • Own and continuously improve the process for delivering market-leading SaaS solutions delivering rapid iteration with predictability and quality
  • Lead/drive the evaluation of external technologies and platforms
  • Be the technical voice of the business
  • Effectively balance technical debt resolution with feature/function output
  • Establish and promote Agile principles and best practices across all teams
  • Be an active participant in the CX technology ecosystem

What You’ll Bring to UserTesting
  • Significant experience as a senior technology executive, with a demonstrated track record of delivering  very scalable, high-performing software platforms
  • 15+ years of technical leadership in software development, with significant work in B2B SaaS offerings for a key company
  • An understanding of key areas such as product management, product design, information systems, security and devops
  • A deep sense of accountability, drive, intelligence and passion 
  • Success in promoting a culture of collaboration, accountability and innovation
  • Experience building and managing high performing, cross-functional teams that span product management, design, development, UX, engineering and Devops.
  • Background creating and driving a technology roadmap, with a solid perspective on when to build versus buy and how to achieve efficiency through low-cost solutions
  • Startup executive experience
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship skills
  • Passion for understanding emerging technologies with pragmatic insight into where those technologies can be integrated into business solutions
  • Proven experience in vetting and crafting technology solutions that are delivered on time and on budget
  • Excellent collaboration and relationship building skills, both internally and externally
  • BS degree in computer science or similar; Graduate degree a plus
