Automation Controls Engineer

Universal Controls, LLC is looking for its next talented team member to fill the role of Automation Controls Engineer. Our new Controls Engineer will work closely with other members of the engineer team as well as the operations/installation crew, the company’s owner, other members of the leadership team and office staff. Universal Controls, LLC designs and installs custom automated environmental control systems for CO 2 enrichment, full environmental control, irrigation and nutrient control, and automated extraction for the cannabis industry, as well as, beverage monitoring. Universal Controls, LLC is excited to celebrate it’s sixth year in business. As a result, we are investing into the necessary adjustments in order to level up and provide the same high-quality products and services to new markets throughout the United States. Controls Engineer Responsibilities:

• Engineering Shop Head: Oversight of shop employees, periodic assessments, coaching, support, and training of team members. You’ll be supported by company Principal, Director Of Business Development, the HR Generalist. 

• Lead large controls projects.

• PLC programming (Unistream/Unilogic PLC’s; additional experience with Idec PLC's a plus). 

• BACnet: HVAC protocol and hardware

 • HMI programming (creating easy to use technical screen design for user interface). 

• Mod BUS, Can BUS, RTU

• Field commissioning and startup of instrumentation and control systems. 

• Multi-project engineering and management. 

• Read, analyze and develop technical procedures, process flow schematics, electrical, instrumentation, and pneumatic. 

• Create detailed I/O lists form P&ID's 

• Use business system to change/add/look up parts for projects. 

• Communicate with Controls Technician, Programmers and all other staff  in professional fashion and positive results. 

• Perform I/O check on panels and skids before leaving. 

• Simulate control system for factory acceptance tests (FAT). 

Qualifications: 

To perform these jobs successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions . 

• BS degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Electronics Engineering is desired; consideration will be given to other degrees 

• 5-7+ years experience preferred. 

• Ability to understand panel layout drawings and electrical schematics. 

• Valid drivers license. 

• Ability to travel (overnight stays) 30-50%
