Position Overview:
Trimble's Mobile Computing Solutions division’s Compliance Engineer is responsible for ensuring worldwide market access for the portfolio. Working with the global Trimble regulatory team to interpret standards and drive adherence, they also collaborate with product management, engineering, and operations teams to specify and design compliant products that surpass customer expectations of innovation and quality. This role directly contributes to the detailed plan and implementation of functional safety requirements through all phases of development and product lifecycle. The position requires a blend of system, electrical, and software engineering skills.  Excellent interpersonal skills are also required to maintain Trimble’s worldwide market access.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure portfolio aligns to the Sector Compliance Policy and statute interpretations
  • Contribute to the sector communication tools on compliance
  • Communicate the status of products and projects though the sector tools and project teams
  • Act as a local oracle of compliance information on EMC, Safety, and Radio Frequency with regards to international compliance
  • Advise, execute, and maintain the portfolio’s worldwide compliance for existing and future products
  • Plan and coordinate compliance project plans to meet market requirements and drive their implementation
  • Advise engineering on the best practices and technologies to achieve worldwide compliance
  • Contract and manage certification, labs and test houses to do regulatory testing for MCS products and systems
  • Establish, maintain, update requirements for regional/country product regulatory compliance
  • Monitor changes to standards and regulations 
  • Work with in-country teams implementing local compliance (e.g. ICASA, Russia EAC) 
  • Advise product team, and PMO, on country trends and status, and ensure the country list remains appropriate and fits the Compliance Policy definitions
  • Identify testing strategies and outside partners to manage total cost of compliance, whilst balancing schedule and flexibility requirements 
  • Select and maintain effective relationships with test laboratories, negotiate volume agreements if applicable
  • Manage the balance of outsourcing and contract resources alongside internal permanent staff
  • Manage authorization/use of dealer channel to complete Tier2 compliance where warranted
  • File and manage required documentation and paperwork worldwide to ensure compliance and timely shipments
  • Ensure product teams release sufficient documentation to Agile in a consistent manner and update throughout the product lifecycle

Skills & Experience Required:

  • BS/MS in electrical or computer engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in Lab testing, R&D or Product Development
  • Organized thinker that can create structure and order, boosting productivity and effectively prioritize tasks
  • Motivated self-starter with strong people and communication skills
  • Ability to knock down roadblocks easily without escalation
