Front-end Developer

 About Us

Our mission here at The Oxbridge Research Group is to help students reach their potential for academic success by connecting them with our network of experienced freelance academics. Our bespoke platform offers our clients customised, on-demand support wherever they are in the world.

Based in Central London, our office is vibrant and fast-paced, and our team is smart, fun and motivated. As a company we are agile, responsive, and always moving forwards. Our dev team is at the heart of this progress. We drive not only the products, services and marketing into new pastures, but constantly work on ways to refine internal operations and increase productivity at the company itself.

We encourage a culture of learning and progression together. We analyse, reflect and work out ways to improve on everything we do. We share knowledge and document things. There are no stupid questions. If we don't know the answer, we figure it out.

The Role

We're looking for a creative front-end developer who can bring their valuable experience and knowledge to the table. As a small team, we need someone who is open-minded and positive, keen to take on responsibility and challenge themselves. We don't know it all, and you don't need to either. It's more important that you be a great self-teacher, love solving problems, and willing to contribute to the growth and development of the team.

Day to day you'll work with the senior developer who will handle the back-end side of things, and the product owner in an agile setup. You'll also liaise with the marketing team, as well as our business analyst, SEO guy, and an external design agency. As the only dedicated "front-end guy" for now, there will be times where you are working alone, however.

In your role, you'll be responsible for:

  • Elevating our websites and portals to the next level. Making them look better and load faster.

  • Taking ownership of front-end code and assets. Making improvements to the way it works, how it's organised and how it's managed.

  • Building new websites with our custom Wordpress framework. Contributing to improving this framework.

  • Marketing campaigns, branding, design, producing assets for the company.

  • Clearing front-end bugs.

  • Sharing knowledge and experience to help the team grow. Contributing to our dev working practices and team operations.

Essential skills:

  • Excellent HTML and CSS (SASS/LESS).
  • Experienced in Javascript / jQuery / Ajax
  • Significant experience with Wordpress, particularly theming, customisation, plugins, etc.
  • Competent with PHP in a front-end context.
  • Experience with Foundation front-end framework (or Bootstrap).
  • Cross-browser and cross-device testing.
  • Creative flair, with an eye for modern design and trends.
  • Understanding of UX best practices.
  • Photoshop / Illustrator
  • Practical knowledge of automation tools such as Gulp or Grunt.

Other skills that would be beneficial:

  • CakePHP. Any other OOP PHP experience.
  • Version control with Git.
  • Experience of working in an agile team. We use JIRA.
  •  Third party Analytics & Google Tag Manager
  • AWS, such as Amazon S3.

Benefits

  • Very competitive salary.
  • Fast-paced working environment with a smart, fun, motivated team.
  • Modern, open-plan office with daily breakfast bar.
  • Time in every sprint for you to work on your own skills and development.
  • Fun Food Friday, our weekly company lunch together.
  • Weekly group yoga classes.
  • Located between King's Cross and Euston stations, serving excellent transport links.
  • Become buddies with Brady, our office dog.
