Associate Technical Editor


The Thomas Technical Content Team develops best-in-class content to help industry professionals learn and grow. We are part of the User Acquisition team and our goal is to grow audience engagement, increase revenue, and provide users with the actionable information they need to help them succeed in their careers.

Your Role

The role of the Associate Technical Editor is twofold - to assist the Director of Technical Content with the publishing operations for all technical content, and to act as a prime contributor to the creation of new original content. This hybrid position requires the ability to effectively manage transitions between these two distinct identities seamlessly as the content workflow and velocity change. 

Your day-to-day responsibilities

 
  •  Monitor the receipt of completed technical content and process as needed including content reviews, edits, uploading to the CMS, and submission for publication.
  • Document status changes and assist with the maintenance of the editorial calendar and reporting systems.
  • Work with internal and external content writers to provide feedback and coaching to assure content quality.
  •  Assist with managing the topic assignment process for the content writers.
  •  Function as a technical content writer by creating unique articles to supplement the overall team content velocity.
  • Recommend valuable changes to the best practices, content standards, style guides, processes, and procedures for the benefit of the overall technical content creation and publishing activity.
  • Interface with other User Acquisition team members, including SEO analysts and marketing to drive achievement of overall team goals and KPIs.


What you bring to the position of Associate Technical Editor:
  • Bachelor’s degree, in Journalism, Communications, or English with a strong knowledge of engineering and technical subject matter.
  • Candidates with a background in Mechanical Engineering will be given preferred consideration.
  • 2+ years of editing experience preferred, with a demonstrated ability to consistently identify errors and perform value-added edits.
  • A demonstrated ability to write highly technical content on conceptually difficult topics quickly, translating complex information for broad audiences in a manner that facilitates comprehension without oversimplification.
  • Experience with a fast-paced content production environment producing long-form content.
  • Ability to operate and thrive in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities and multiple responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work quickly and collaboratively and to deliver against deadlines.
  • Impeccable organization skills and ability to function autonomously under minimum supervision.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Content Management Tools, Image applications, and Google Drive.
