Manufacturing Communications Representative

Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Communications Representative is accountable for planning the schedule of work flow for each Department and operation according to previously established lead times and sequences. Confers with Production Supervisors to determine status of assigned projects and expedites operations that delay schedules, altering schedules to meet unforeseen conditions. The position is accountable for providing production work orders and capacity loading for defined work centers while maintaining on-time delivery to customers. This is accomplished by executing the production schedule through the hard copies of work orders by department. The role must support Teknions’ J.I.T. philosophy, while gaining improvements in production efficiencies. It is also accountable for assuring that internal and external customers receive efficient and courteous service.  The incumbent will be responsible for receiving and responding to queries, within established guidelines.  The Representative is also responsible for acting as a liaison between various manufacturing, corporate, and customer contacts. In addition, this incumbent is accountable for maintaining appropriate records and preparing required reports. 


  •  Establish all production schedules via the Baan ERP software
  • Assist in eliminating delays and shortages by analyzing the current schedule. This is accomplished by flagging any problems, and working with relevant departments to resolve any situations
  • Analyze the schedule in an effort to improve efficiencies while meeting shipping deadlines
  • Responsible for professionally addressing customer requests for adjustments on orders and providing the appropriate feedback on any issues that may arise from such changes i.e. changes orders and PAFs
  • Accountable for maintaining a Daily Log of all their customer orders. This log is a primary tool used to monitor and proactively advise the appropriate contacts of any abnormal activity in their orders
  • Responsible for effectively resolving customer and manufacturing identified issues utilizing effective problem solving techniques, through direct interaction with both Teknion’s internal and external customers
  • Attend the daily Production meeting: in order to convey all pertinent scheduling information to the production personnel, while receiving and replying to any relevant concerns
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Materials Manager 

  •  Post secondary education or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of Customer Service related experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Equivalent experience in the scheduling of a manufacturing facility using an ERP software package
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment that is deadline oriented
  • Ability to work independently, within a team, and in a manufacturing and customer service environment
  • Computer literate; advanced level in Microsoft Word and Excel, e-mail, MRP system and network usage
  • Fundamental understanding of technical drawings is beneficial
  • General understanding of manufacturing communications
  • Consistently follows EHS general rules and procedures and is aware of the EHS policy 
  • Demonstrates good initiative for working safely, reporting, and participating in EHS
