Engineering Coop Student

The Engineering Coop student will support improvement projects and do daily tasks on the production floor to improve process operations. We are currently seeking a highly motivated student for April 2020 to August 2021, 16 month term. The candidate will gain knowledge of engineering principles in welding, cutting, joining, lamination and assembly processes. They will also be exposed to cycle time studies and development of standardized work. The Engineering Coop student will report directly to the Engineering Manager. 


Responsibilities: 
  • Perform cycle time studies to identify and eliminate waste thus improving overall machine efficiencies
  • Support root cause problem solving activities to improve overall process performance
  • Document processes, collect and analyze data and interact with employees and lead hands
  • Update and improve the documentation of Standardized Work Procedures
  • Assist with the development of equipment Preventative Maintenance (PM) programs
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing methods to improve repeatability, quality and cost effectiveness in the plant
  • Support ISO9001 & ISO14001 activities by working closely with the Quality team
  • Perform all other duties reasonable to the position as assigned by the Engineering Manager
  • Consistently follows EHS general rules and procedures and is aware of the EHS policy
  • Demonstrates good initiative for working safely, reporting, and participating in EHS

Qualifications: 
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic or Industrial Engineering
  • Knowledge and experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (particularly Excel)
  • Experienced with Solidworks/AutoCad having the ability to update and change drawings and plant layouts
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, complimented with exceptional computer skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Self starter driven by results, setting goals and meeting deadlines
  • Candidates must possess a strong work ethic
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Must be capable of working under minimum supervision
