Software Engineering Manager

As a Software Engineering Manager at Teamworks, you’re on a mission to lead a team of talented and focused software engineers in achieving departmental and organizational goals. You’ll strive to help members of your team and other departments overcome obstacles and deliver amazing results to our customers. As a leader who is constantly on the lookout for ways to empower your team to work at peak efficiency, you’ll help each team member grow as engineers and future leaders.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to strategically manage the delicate balance between advancing the business and advocating for your team. You’ll achieve this success by communicating well at all levels, and tailoring your conversations to the appropriate audience. You’ll constantly measure, take feedback, and adjust course as needed.

In Six Months, You Will Have Successfully:

  • Worked closely with each member of your team to identify their strengths and weaknesses (both technical and non-technical), establish a plan, execute that plan and track progress towards success.
  • Identified and tracked meaningful metrics that allow you to quickly act when development efforts are going awry and bring them back on track.
  • Established yourself as an advocate for our customers’ success - both within the engineering department as well as cross-functionally.
  • Worked with your leadership peers to identify and eliminate self-inflicted obstacles and ineffective process.
  • Ensured we have the right people in the right roles.

You'll Achieve This Success By:
  • Holding regular one-on-ones with your team members to not simply check in, but to have crucial conversations that drive them to grow and improve.
  • Reviewing works-in-progress, participating in planning, grooming and retrospectives.
  • Soliciting feedback from all areas of the business and using that feedback to make improvements.
  • Having frequent conversations with the product team to ensure we’re always focused on the most important objectives.
  • Reviewing trends and patterns and identifying gaps in what we’re tracking as we strive for peak efficiency and utmost quality.

You Should Have Proven Experience With:
  • Programming in a professional setting, preferably in a senior-level role within SaaS or Enterprise software organizations.
  • Leading a team of software engineers.
  • Modern programming languages. You don’t need to have explicit experience with Python and React (our stack) but you should be able to pick them up quickly.
