UX Researcher

Tailwind is a 40+ person tech company growing quickly — roughly doubling year over year.  Our visual marketing software is loved by 300,000+ brands, small businesses, and influencers who use it to take their efforts to new heights on Instagram and Pinterest.

We have a big mission too:  Make world-class marketing easy for everyone.  And we’re looking for our first UX Researcher to help us achieve it even faster.

This is an opportunity to have an immeasurable impact on the trajectory of our company, as well as millions of small businesses around the world who will come to benefit from our products. You’d conduct the research that fuels the next generation of marketing tech that makes the unthinkable today look easy tomorrow.

What you'll love about this role:
  • Our entire company aims for research-validated decisions — we default to data and value it highly, which leads to limitless impact in this role!
  • You’d be impacting the lives of small business owners — helping them pursue their dreams and thrive using our platform
  • We’re radically collaborative, free of silos, and you’d partner with team members from across the company
  • You’d be working directly with our small, yet established product team including two incredibly talented Product Designers, our Head of Product/co-founder, seasoned Product Managers — alongside an empathetic team of in-house engineers
  • Research can be highly-targeted thanks to our tech stack which ties customer profiles to product engagement for outreach

What you’ll need:
  • Deep UX-related research experience with a wide variety of methods, preferably in a SaaS company
  • Ability to work in our NYC office full time (826 Broadway)
  • Ability to own initiatives across different products (For context, several people are doing research and you’d ensure we focus on the right problems and are structured in a way to get answers as efficiently as possible)
  • Comfort with questioning product decisions to ensure they’re research-grounded
  • Extreme empathy for users — figuring out how they think, understanding their problems, and helping others predict how changes will make them feel
  • Willingness to be vulnerable, admit failure, and ask for help when needed
  • Ability to leverage direct access to thousands of eager customers to lead user research interviews, test prototypes, and validate ideas quickly
  • Communication skills — able to convey complex findings in a friendly way to marketers, customer success teams, designers, engineers, and others
  • Ability to design research methods for the near and long term, while being cognizant of and eliminating the various biases that can occur during research
  • A track history of collaborating with designers, product managers and engineers
  • A love for sharing insights and advocating for users across the company, not just in the product team — everyone should understand customers!
  • Expert problem solving skills — able to break down problems, find gaps in our knowledge, and structure research to fill those gaps, while knowing what’s important to spend time researching and what isn't
  • Comfort with quantitative research methods, A/B testing, SaaS-based usage metrics and can blend quantitative data with qualitative research
  • Ability to dig past surface-level conversation to uncover what a person truly wants

Bonus points for:
  • Entrepreneurial spirit:  You’re excited to be our first full-time UX researcher!
  • Proficiency in various research software tools — Intercom, Indicative, Heap, Mixpanel, etc.
  • Small business expertise — conducting research for products which specifically focus on serving small to mid-sized businesses
  • Experience researching MarTech, ecommerce, or AdTech products or industries

More about us:
  • We are all owners (literally):  We take responsibility, don’t pass blame, and don’t rest until the problem is solved
  • We're growing quickly – roughly doubling year on year – and we're profitable
  • We set audacious goals and tackle challenges daily, which leaves no room for ego or a sense of entitlement
  • We’re multi-office:  Most of our team members work in our headquarters in Oklahoma City, while many of us call our New York City office home, and several of us work remotely
  • We’re radically transparent:  Sharing new ideas and plans, giving feedback, and making everyone feel welcome in every conversation
  • Our growing team blends deep early stage DNA (team + alumni have started 17 companies, and helped build 18 other startups) with industry expertise born out of leading names in tech and marketing such as Google, YouTube, AOL, AWeber, a la mode, BigWing Interactive, Paycom, Apple, Yodle and PCS
  • We believe our industry’s lack of diversity hurts us all and work hard to foster a company culture that’s inclusive and appreciative of everyone’s talent, authenticity, and ideas — regardless of our differences
