Strand booksellers ensure that our customers are always the number one priority. As a bookseller you would work on one of our three floors doing a variety of tasks including but not limited to:
-Using our software program to locate or order items in our inventory. Practice book-in-hand delivery to guarantee that customers are receiving the items they are looking for.
-Ensure a memorable shopping experience by engaging with customers and making well informed book recommendations.
-Completing register transactions accurately and quickly
-Making determinations about incoming used materials including placement and pricing. Performing data entry of these materials into our inventory with extreme accuracy.
All applicants should understand that being a bookseller requires manual labor e.g shelving books, lifting boxes and standing for their entire shift.
You may also be required to work at one of our outdoor offsite locations a few days a week or join our merchandise team which requires strong analytical skills needed to determine proper product placement based on sales data.
Strand primarily hires full-time employees although occasional part-time positions are available.
Applicants should be able to work 5 days a week.
Our shifts are:
7:00 am - 4:00 pm
9:15 am - 6:15 pm
11:00 am - 8:00 pm
1:30 pm - 10:30 pm
These are not negotiable start/end times.
All booksellers are required to work Saturday and/or Sundays and some evening shifts.
Strand is a union shop. All new full-time employees will automatically be registered with the union
after completing their 90 day probationary period. After one month, an initiation fee of $50 will be deducted from the employee's paycheck in 10 weekly installments and union dues will start to be deducted each pay period at a rate of 2.5% of gross monthly pay.
