Vice President of Immunology

SQZ Biotechnologies is seeking an experienced and team-oriented Vice President of Immunology to join our R&D team reporting directly to our Chief Scientific Officer. As VP of Immunology, you will be responsible for overseeing multiple cell therapy programs in oncology and autoimmunity. In addition to the successful candidate will provide leadership and mentorship to SQZ’s passionate and multi-disciplinary project teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee multiple cell therapy research programs in the areas of oncology and autoimmunity
  • Provide strong scientific oversight of ongoing programs ensuring that robust pharmacologic and safety packages are created to support clinical development 
  • Provide vision and strategic leadership to multi-disciplinary project teams 
  • Manage timelines, milestones, budgets and objectives
  • Communicate project progress to internal management and external stakeholders, including industry partners
  • Leverage knowledge of immunology to influence clinical trial design and biomarker strategies, including the molecular definition of potential responders 
  • Supervise, mentor and guide the career development at all levels including PhD-level scientists

Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in immunology or related discipline with relevant post-doctoral training 
  • 15+ years of relevant industry experience in an immunotherapy setting with extensive experience leading biologics from candidate optimization to IND-enabling studies
  • Demonstrated application of expertise to candidate identification in the context of immuno-oncology, autoimmunity and inflammation
  • Recognized as a leader in the field with a strong publication record
  • Experience in cell therapy is a plus
  • In depth knowledge and expertise in animal models of innate and adaptive immunity
  • Critical problem-solving abilities and an awareness of current trends in Immunology and cell therapy
  •  Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills with an enthusiasm for participating in a fast-paced environment characterized by rigorous science and innovative thinking 
  • Self-motivated and adept at regularly delivering towards deadlines, and strong skills in troubleshooting
  • A team player and mentor, who listens effectively and invites response and discussion
