This person will lead, manage, and oversee all functional service areas – roads, water distribution, wastewater systems, equipment & facility maintenance, and planning & development. Position Summary:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
* Directing and supporting Facilities, Plants, Public Works Foremen
* Creating job descriptions/manuals for all Operational Service positions
* In consultation with Department Foremen, evaluate, promote, train, and discipline staff in Operational Services positions
* Overseeing maintenance, safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of operational services, ensuring legal requirements are always met
* Evaluating facilities, equipment, & maintenance programs and suggesting improvements, repairs, deletions, or acquisitions to the Town Council
* Developing and monitoring approved budgets
* Building, implementing, and maintaining the Health & Safety Program
* Reporting on and recommending changes to policies or bylaws
* Keeping up to date with trends and legislated requirements
* Serving as a Technical Advisor to Town Council, management, staff, and the public
* Fostering positive relationships with government agencies and professional organizations
* Utilizing data from research, evaluations, and consultations with Foremen, CAO, and Town Council, formulate plans to meet current and future needs of the community
Required Qualifications:
* Must be living within 45 minutes of Fort Macleod, AB
* 5 – 7 years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment; familiarity with collective agreements, bargaining, and negotiations
* Post-secondary education in civil/municipal engineering or equivalent
* Strong understanding of Operational Services within a municipality
* Working knowledge of government legislation, bylaws, regulations, and policies
* Proficient in computer applications, including MS Suite
* Capable of lifting 50lbs (equipment/supplies) and using PPE when required
* Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and frequent interruptions
* Diplomatic demeanor when interacting with customers, employees, contractors, developers, and government representatives
* Respect for and commitment to confidentiality
Compensation & Hours:
* The rate of pay is expected to be $80K - $100K annually
