The Position. We’re looking for an Environmental Services Supervisor. The Environmental Services Supervisor is responsible for direct oversight of the Environmental Services team and for the effective functioning, upkeep and physical appearance of the grounds, furniture and equipment in the retirement community.

Qualifications or Skills Required:
- Extensive experience as a maintenance worker
- Demonstrated skills in: light carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting and equipment maintenance
- Empathy for and understanding of the needs of the elderly and/or disabled
- Ability to relate to all levels of staff, the residents and their families, and other professionals with a high degree of patience and tolerance
- Strong communication skills; both oral and written
- Initiative, good judgment and supervisory abilities
- Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with residents, service team members and guests
Education:
- Current CPR & First Aid Certification
- Certification from a program in general maintenance
Responsibilities:
- Ensures safety of staff and residents by regularly maintaining equipment and furniture and by providing general upkeep to the physical grounds and its large systems
- Develops and maintains effective relationships with residents and guests in order to determine individual needs, resolve issues or concerns, and evaluate resident satisfaction
- Ensuring that the services provided to resident’s meets or exceeds expectations
- Providing residents with a safe and comfortable living environment
- Participates as a member of the Service Team Leaders and provides support to the other members of the team
- Provides leadership and direction to environmental services team members
- Participates in decision-making particularly in matters related to staff and resident health and safety
- Supervises the security, RGA - laundry and housekeeping service team members or maintains contracts for these services
- Negotiating with suppliers to obtain optimum value for products and agreement on delivery schedules - Use approved vendors
- Sharing information and participating on committees to develop and implement best practices throughout Seasons communities
- Maintains the appearance and upkeep of the community by implementing regular painting and decorating plans and ensure all furniture and fixtures are operational and in good repair
- Schedules and conducts regular preventative maintenance activities
- Co -chairs as a member of the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee
- Conducts regular fire and emergency preparedness drills
- Responds to queries from potential residents, family members and friends as required
- Promotes wellness in the community among service team members, residents and guests
- Plans and implements a regular daily, weekly, monthly and yearly schedule of preventative maintenance activities to ensure the plant and equipment are safe and in good working order
- Provides minor building, electrical, plumbing and equipment repair services to ensure the optimum functioning of the physical plant and equipment
- Identifies and investigates physical plant deficiencies and equipment malfunctions and takes the appropriate corrective action
- Receives and stores all non-kitchen related deliveries

Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills are essential, as is excellence in achieving continuous quality improvements. Related experience within the seniors housing industry is an asset.
