Marijuana Business Daily is seeking the right individual to lead the company’s mission-critical IT team. The IT function is seen as a strategic capability and they are expecting tech-boom-like growth over the next twelve months. They are looking for an experienced individual that fits the company culture, can manage the continued growth and take the IT function to the next level. 
 
Position Summary
The Web Development Lead will be responsible in driving and directing the growth of a four-person web development team, while also directly participating in the full web development life cycle.
 
Primary Responsibilities
  • Oversee web infrastructure and improvements for a portfolio of media and event websites. 
  • Demonstrate a passion for technologies, and introduce advancements that provide value.
  • Empower a dedicated team of developers via a lightweight, agile management style.
  • Roll up your sleeves and knock out web development work, whenever appropriate.
  • Continually seek improvement in the hosting infrastructure, technology stacks and code quality.
  • Champion company priorities to prioritize shifting initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Find the best solutions to challenges, be they elegant or complicated, best practice or innovation.
  • Ensure accurate tracking and assigning of tasks and defects; drive performance and monitor progress.
  • Optimize sites for speed, SEO and overall user experience.
  • Spur efforts in testing, refactoring, usability, and automation.
  • Mentor team members; encourage career growth and collaboration.
  • Build team further via mentorship, hiring as appropriate, encouragement of career growth and collaboration.
  • Assist with non-web-development projects when necessary. 

Supervisory Responsibility
  • This position would be responsible for supervising four individuals on the web development team. This is subject to change as the company continues to grow.

Requirements 
Required Education/Experience 
  • Five plus years of direct development experience.
  • Three plus years of experience running development teams.
  • Institution of effective systems in task-management software such as Jira, TeamworkPM or equivalent.
  • Customization and development of WordPress or similar CMS platforms.
  • Knowledge of web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript/JQuery, PHP.
  • Proficiency in CSS frameworks, JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, D3), Grunt/GUlp, SASS and other development tools/technologies.
  • Cloud development to AWS or Google Cloud, and/or experience with managed hosting.
  • Experience with e-commerce platforms.
  • Familiarity with web design best practices.
  • Mobile app development experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Direct experience working for or with media or event companies.
  • Experience with paywall and subscription platforms.
  • Rapid hiring and building of development teams.
