A day in the role of a Recreation Therapist at Cooksville Care Centre.
As a Recreation Therapist at Cooksville Care Centre, you will be given high expectations, as well as an expectation to continue personal growth and professional growth. In this position, you will be gifted with a rewarding experience every day in the form of being able to see the exact impact you place on our residents.
As a Recreation Therapist, you will be part of our Programs team, and you will report directly to the Programs Manager. This position will require flexibility to work days, evenings and weekends. Schedules will be provided.
This position is responsible for but not limited to:
- Effective human relations skills and demonstrated commitment to working with seniors.
- Ability to work effectively individually and with others while prioritizing tasks to handle the most urgent first.
- Ability to work effectively within a variety of stressful situations and challenges and with various individuals or groups.
- Ability to thoroughly think through problems and situations, involve various resources and generate creative solutions.
- Ability to present information clearly and effectively both verbally whether in person or over the phone and in writing; an active listener who projects a friendly demeanor.
- Super organization, planning, time management and multi-tasking skills.
- Proven experience in taking personal responsibility for seeking information from various sources, enables others learning through sharing experiences, coaching and mentoring.
- Good attendance track record.
- Flexible to meet the needs of the facility when identified.
- Assist staff in providing resident care as required.
- Satisfactory work records required, including attendance
- Must be able to identify needs, abilities, strengths and interests and adapt programming on a resident to resident basis with a strong focus on meaningful activities of daily living.
- Plan, implement and ongoing evaluation of therapeutic programs
- Must have proven programming techniques to improve the physical, cognitive, emotional and social and leisure needs of our residents
- Ensure compliance with the relevant policies and procedures of the Ministry of Long-Term Care
Qualifications
At the Cooksville Care Centre we take pride in our employees, so your qualifications are important to us. We use them to get to know you and see if we are a good fit for each other. The qualifications needed to join our family at Cooksville Care Centre are as follows:
- Degree or Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation/ Recreation Therapy
- Member in good standing with TRO
- Experience using Activity Pro, MDS and Point Click Care
- Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- 3-5 years Long-Term Care experience
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently
- Possess strong documentation skills
- Current Standard and/or Emergency First Aid and CPR certification
- Aware of Residents Bill of Rights
- Restorative care education training an asset
- Certificates in Montessori techniques and approaches, PIECES
- Available to work days, evenings and weekends
- Must have a clear vulnerable sector police check, no older than 6 months, 2-step TB test results less than 6 months old, must be able to provide three work references.
