Job Summary:

 Effective human relations skills and demonstrated commitment to working in Long Term Care
 Able to work effectively individually and with others in prioritizing tasks
 Ability to work effectively within a variety of stressful situations, challenges and with various individuals and groups.
 Ability to apply and demonstrate critical thinking and analysis to problems, situations and challenges, to involve available resources and to assist in generating effective and creative solutions while addressing the needs of the residents and their families.
 Ability to present information in a clear, concise manner, both verbally in either person or via telephone or in writing. To be able to demonstrate effective listening skills and a friendly demeanor.
 Excellent organizational skills and planning skills, ability to demonstrate effective time management, able to multi-task.
 Ability to document and record accurately and as required via tracking tools, monthly audits, ActPro, MDS/RAPS, Care Plans, Quarterly record and anything related to quality assurance.
 To plan, implement, evaluate, modify programs based on resident needs
 Facilitate programs ranging from one to one, small groups, facility wide, outings, special events, community based programs
 Willing and able to take accountability and responsibility for themselves, their actions as well as non-actions
 Ability to seek out information from all sources, enables others to learn through shared experiences, coaching and mentoring
 Ability to read, write and speak English. A second language is beneficial to meet the needs of a diverse population
 Current CPR and First Aid
 Excellent attendance track record
 Ability to do all other duties as assigned
 Flexible to ensure that the needs of the Home are met when identified

Work Experience:

 Previous experience working in Long Term Care with seniors
 Recognizes and abides by the Resident’s Bill of Rights
 Experience planning, implementing and evaluating programs
 Excellent written and verbal communicate skills, organization skills, computer skills (ActPro/PCC)
 Knowledgeable of MOH standards, Inspection Protocols, and applicable Ontario Legislation pertaining to Long Term Care
 Respectful or residents and families wishes and decisions
 Continually updating on innovative recreation resources available
 Working with residents with Responsive Behaviours would be an asset

Education & Training:

 Has a post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related fields from a community college or university
 Completion of a Criminal Record check and Vulnerable Sector Search
 Valid TB test completion
 CPR and First Aid
 Experience in Restorative Programming
 Food Handlers Certificate
 Other related continuing education in the field
