About the job

As a Cloud Operations Engineer your tasks may vary day-to-day but primarily will focus on best-of-class support for AWS Cloud Infrastructure, including optimization and configuration. In your role you will gain a deeper level of expertise in:
  • Core concepts such as EC2, S3, RDS, Route53, CloudWatch
  • Virtual Networking Topologies and concepts including VPC, routing, ELB, AZs
  • Core AWS security and auditing capabilities including IAM, Security Groups, NACLs, GuardDuty, Inspector, CloudTrail, AWS Config, etc.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work on critical, highly complex customer problems that may span multiple AWS services
  • Participate in 24/7 technical support coverage across the cloud and on-premises datacenter environment and applications
  • Provide responsible, timely, detailed status of progress and expectations
  • Drive to change and constantly improve the service that is delivered to the customer with minimum disruption
  • Manage high volume networks and large traffic websites
  • Actively manage server and database backups
  • Adhere to security and best practice standards
  • Ensure proper documentation, notification, escalation, tracking, and follow up of all incidents.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving single customer issues with Windows, Mac, and Linux, VPN, permissions and ownership of a wide variety of account administration tasks.
  • Apply advanced troubleshooting techniques to provide unique solutions to our customers' individual needs
  • Drive customer communication during critical events
  • Write tutorials, how-to videos, and other technical articles
  • Submit well documented bugs and feature requests arising from customer submitted requests

Required Skills

  • AWS Associate (SysOps and/or Developer and/or Architect) Certification
  • Experience in the implementation, management and administration of Enterprise systems tools and processes 
  • Basic comprehension of the overall IT infrastructure and application stack 
  • Ability to work in a multilingual/cultural environment 
  • Ability to work natively in a mixed Windows/Linux environment and can fully comprehend hybrid architectures
  • Analytical skills to assist in the resolution of complex issues that may be time sensitive
  • Excellent ability to troubleshoot on a variety of operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux)
  • Ability to provide high-level support for technical clients
  • Hands-on experience with typical project and system/customer support: planning, coordinating,  customer education and support, troubleshooting, problem resolution, product evaluation, and documentation
  • Experience granting SSH and RDP access
  • Ability to estimate effort to complete tasks
  • Network configuration knowledge (Firewalls, VPN, Routers/Switches, and Load Balancers)
  • Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and manage activities
  • Experienced problem solver, able to troubleshoot issues independently or escalate when necessary - sense of accountability and sound personal judgment
  • Excellent oral/written communication and organization skills 
  • Passion for technology and continuous education
  • Must work flexible shifts and scheduling including weekends and holidays

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with external vendors and consulting engagements
  • Additional AWS certifications a plus
  • Experience with one or more scripting languages (e.g. Bash, Powershell, Ruby, Python, etc)
  • Experience with Apache, nginx, Tomcat, IIS, and varnish
  • Experience managing MySQL and/or SQL Server
  • Experience building and administering LAMP, RoR, Java, and/or ASP.NET web application environments
  • Experience working with different Linux distributions
  • Experience with DNS and LDAP
  • Experience with Xen Server 6+/Virtualization
  • Basic understanding of various network topologies and protocols
  • Experience/familiarity with Git
  • Experience monitoring ELK stack, or other similar stack
  • System Administration experience
