Managing Editor

Do you love lists? Ranker.com, the leading platform for ranking just about everything, seeks a full-time Managing Editor to join our content operations in a management role. You’ll be mentoring editors and designing projects to build content at scale, based on data-driven decision-making. Topics your team will cover a range from current pop culture trends to golfers and tennis players to coffee maker brands. (Like we said, everything!)

As the ideal candidate, you’ve already managed a small group of editors, ideally for a content publisher like Ranker, in which you’ve proven your ability to develop efficient systems and execute. You have an above average grasp of today’s SEO best practices and know how to get lots of content built efficiently. You love organizing ideas and data and problem-solving ways to save time and improve quality. You are a self-starter who will embrace our start-up culture, and throw yourself into making our company a huge success.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage and mentor a small group of editors tasked with high output content generation at scale, across verticals.
  • Take ownership of existing content verticals, implementing a broad department strategy at the project level.
  • Develop processes and systems to scale the operation, including ideating within new verticals and securing new content sources.
  • Assist with oversight, strategy, and planning to ensure direct reports’ work aligns with broader company goals.
  • Deploy SEO best practices to optimize content and assist in mentoring direct reports on best practice changes.
  • Write, assign, and/or publish content as needed.
  • Compile and analyze data to inform editorial decisions.

Experience Needed
  • 4+ years experience managing a small team of editors or other creatives.
  • 4+ years experience in hands-on content creation (writing, editing, pitching)
  • 4+ years SEO experience at any level, ideally at a similar digital media content publisher
  • Proven ability to make data-driven decisions in a fast-paced environment amid shifting priorities
  • Strong communications skills: clean, concise prose and good grammar.
  • Comfortable using spreadsheets and project management tools.
  • Data-driven: you know how to identify meaningful metrics, interpret data, and check your hunches against the data
  • Demonstrated professionalism and good judgment when communicating with internal teams and members of the public.
  • Comfortable quickly adapting to changes in software, technology, and processes.
  • An interest in pop culture, sports, internet culture or social media.

These skills are not required, but would give candidates a great foundation for succeeding in this role:
  • Demonstrated success at building content at scale, in huge volume
  • Experience working with product teams building out CMS or other content tools
