ProTech Coatings is trying to close out several construction projects in the Salt Lake City, UT area. This position has the opportunity for advancement and travel, as well as, Davis Bacon/prevailing wages depending on the project specifics.

Polyester Overview
The Operator on a polyester crew is responsible for all equipment he is assigned to operate to ensure they are ready for production. This position is charged with having an excellent knowledge of the automated grade control, functions of the all paver parts, and be responsible for the organization, storage, maintenance and protection of all equipment components. He/She is expected to safely operate, clean, and repair the paver, blasting equipment, and any rental equipment or other equipment used and is also to assist in training and supervising other employees using same such equipment. A Paver Operator must have a working knowledge of concrete tending and finishing, grade control functions, surface preparation, primer application and all other incidental tasks required to install a quality polyester overlay.
The Mixer Operator / Field Mechanic on a polyester crew is responsible for all equipment assigned to the project to ensure they are ready for production. This position is charged with having an expert knowledge of the CT109 Calibration process for the mixer equipment and is expected to supervise and train employees to correctly and safely operate, clean, maintain, and repair the mixer truck, shot blaster, paver, rental equipment, etc. as directed by the project Foreman. In order to provide this oversight, he/she must have a working knowledge of all applications and functions necessary to provide a quality polyester overlay.
Possible positions for advancement include Foreman, QC/Safety Supervisor, and Asset Manager.
Polymer Overview
The Operator is responsible for all equipment assigned to the project to ensure they are ready for production. He/She is expected to safely operate, clean maintain, troubleshoot and repair the chip spreader, Honey Badger and Lilly pump and any rental equipment used. An Operator must have working knowledge of all applications and all equipment of a General Laborer, Skilled Laborer and an Operator equipment. He/She must also have working knowledge of prep, install and QC of all applications in this division. Possible positions for advancement include Foreman.
Essential Duties
- Works under the direct supervision of the Foreman and Mixer Operator.
- Using excellent customer service skills establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.
- Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department.
- Operates specialty construction equipment, according to state laws while observing all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Operates trucks to haul aggregate, resins, equipment, tools, products, dirt, trash and other designated materials.
- Performs onsite installation duties, including spreading and applying overlay and bridge seals.
- Operates all equipment when onsite. Trains and certifies upcoming employees on proper use and maintenance of all equipment.
- Works with epoxy, polyurea and methacrylate resins, crack sealing material, concrete, concrete repair materials, oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, paint, traffic control signs, dirt, rock, sand and gravel.
- Operates and works around noisy equipment, vibrating equipment.
- Frequent exposure to gasoline, diesel, paint and epoxy.
- Completes daily reports and time sheets.
- Performs heavy manual labor duties out-of-doors in extreme weather conditions as needed.
- Provides minor equipment maintenance on daily basis such as greasing suspension, checking hydraulic/brake fluid, oil, water, fuel, transmission and air pressure levels and cleans equipment.
- Follow company tag-out procedures for equipment needing repair beyond skillset or available tooling.
- Performs daily equipment inspections and all required DOT inspections to remain within laws and company requirements.
- This position is charged with the responsibility of onsite production while representing ProTech in a professional, productive and safe manner.
- As a crew member, will also work in all phases of a project. It is also expected that to continuously learn and apply technical skills and knowledge about the installations, equipment and methods.
- Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Licensing/Registration/Certification
Required:
· Valid UT Driver’s License, CDL Class A, HAZMAT Endorsement.
· High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
· Acceptable driving record for past three years.
· Current DOT Medical Card.
· Current OSHA 30 certification
· 6 Sigma / Lean Manufacturing, experience, training and/or certifications preferred.
2. Experience
Preferred 2-4 years experience in Highway Construction and Equipment operation.
3. Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
Demonstrate safe efficient operation of trucks, trailers, shot blasters, forklifts and other equipment as required. Mastery of Skill Laborer skill sets and higher. General understanding of construction trades and sequencing. Must demonstrate safe equipment operation. Be teachable, demonstrate problem solving abilities, willing to perform any task requested and be model for all crew members.
4. Physical
Body Positions: May be required to be bent over, extended, prone, or any number of physical positions that might be out of the ordinary for “normal” working conditions.
Body Movements: Including but not limited to: bending, lifting up to 100 lbs, climbing, kneeling, walking, hoisting.
Body Senses: Must be able to use all 5 senses.
5. Mental
Mathematical: Construction math required. Must be able to figure logistics, weights, travel times, load sizes, etc.
Language: English is required. Spanish and/or Tongan would be very helpful.
Mechanical: Must be mechanically oriented. Have personal tools and the ability to use them. Must know how to perform and assist with equipment repair. Run and properly maintain ProTech equipment.
Spatial: Must have good spatial orientation and be aware of moving vehicles on the highway and personnel around equipment while operating. Must be able to integrate into a system and perform required tasks with equipment safely. Must learn how components of a project (including materials as well as Technicians) fit together.
6. General Qualifications
This position is subject to ProTech’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Most equipment will not be climate controlled. Jobsite conditions might include but are not limited to: excessive heat, excessive cold, wind, moisture, dust, noise, solvents and other uncomfortable conditions. Night and weekend work will be required.
DUTIES AND TASKS
DAILY
· Talk with Site Foreman and Mixer Operator regularly to get all necessary information for the current phase of installation as well as the broader project scope.
· Assist as directed in pre-mob, mobilization, production and de-mob.
· Perform vehicle maintenance and inspection duties.
· Primary support for Mixer Operator to maximize production, quality and safety.
· Assist Skilled Laborers and General Laborers in production.
· Promote onsite project safety through action and training.
· Attend/ run and participate in toolbox meetings.
· Pick up project schedule information on the phone schedule line after 5:00 pm.
AS NEEDED
· Attend onsite project meetings
· Attend crew meetings
· Conduct material/equipment training onsite as required
· Report systems violations to the Director of Operations
MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE
· Documented growth in knowledge and proficiency with ProTech’s installation systems/methods.
· Documented growth in knowledge and proficiency with materials ProTech installs.
· Documented growth in knowledge and proficiency with equipment.
· All of the above measure against ProTech’s published Equipment Operator skill sets.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
· The Equipment Operator/Technician reports directly to the Site Foreman or Superintendent but receives guidance and assistance from the Project Manager as necessary.
AUTHORITY:
The Equipment Operator has the overall authority to take any reasonable action necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position, consistent with established Company policies, good industry practices and sound, ethical business judgment. This includes providing information, material, support service, tools, hardware, or anything else required to perform the work within the established limitations. The Equipment Operator has a duty to report any unsafe practices to a supervisor.
