  • ProTech Coatings is looking to hire a full-time skilled laborer to help complete a project in the Coeur d'Alene, Idaho area, which includes prevailing wages.

    Reports To:     Equipment Operator or Foreman 
    Supervises:     General Laborers 
      
    Polyester Overview

    The Skilled Laborer is a production position and has mastered the General Laborer skill sets. A Skilled Laborer is very proficient in basic prep and is gaining knowledge in more advanced prep equipment, materials and techniques.  This position is charged with the responsibility of increasing production, while gaining knowledge, skill and techniques while representing ProTech in a professional, productive and safe manner.  As a growing crew member, the Skilled Laborer will work in most phases of a project and work diligently to advance to a Concrete Finisher and Equipment Operator position.  Daily duties may include, but are not limited to sand blasting, material application, equipment operation assistance and support General Laborer duties, etc.  Acceptance of a Big Brother/Big Sister role to incoming General Laborers is critical for personal and team growth.

    Polymer Overview

                The Skilled Laborer is responsible for all equipment he is assigned to operate to ensure they are ready for production.  He/She is expected to safely operate, clean maintain, and repair the blasting equipment, and any rental equipment or other equipment used.  A Skilled Laborer must have a working knowledge of Scarifiers, Jackhammers, Skid Steers, Forklifts, Sweepers and Sandblasters.  Possible positions for advancement include Concrete Finisher, Operator and Foreman.
     
    REQUIREMENTS
     
    1. Licensing/Registration/Certification
                Required: Valid UT Driver’s license
                Preferred: High School Diploma or GED
                Preferred: CDL Class A
     
    2. Experience
    Preferred 1-3 years minimum in Highway Construction.
    A good attitude with ambition is required.
                                        
    3. Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
    Demonstrate mastery of General Laborer skill sets and higher with a general understanding of highway construction, be teachable, demonstrate problem solving abilities, and be willing to perform any task requested.  Be a role model for new entry level General Laborers.  

     
    4. Physical
    Body Positions: May be required to be bent over, extended, prone, or any number of physical positions that might be out of the ordinary for “normal” working conditions. 
    Body Movements: Including but not limited to: bending, lifting up to 100 lbs, climbing, kneeling, walking, hoisting.                
    Body Senses: Must have all 5 senses in good working order or corrected to good working order.
     
    5. Mental
    Mathematical: Construction math required.  The Skilled Laborer must learn to figure area, quantities, coverage rates and material (mil) thicknesses.                            
    Language: English is required.  Spanish would be very helpful.                                
    Mechanical: Must be mechanically oriented.  Have personal tools and the ability to use them.                                     
    Spatial: Must have good spatial orientation and be aware of moving vehicles on the highway.  Must be able to integrate into a system and perform required tasks.  Must learn how components of a project (including materials as well as Technicians) fit together.
     
    6. General Qualifications
    This position is subject to ProTech’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.
     
    WORKING CONDITIONS
    Jobsite conditions will not be climate controlled. Jobsite conditions might include but are not limited to: excessive heat, excessive cold, wind, moisture, dust, solvent, noise and other uncomfortable conditions. Night and weekend work will be required.
     
    DUTIES AND TASKS
     
    DAILY
    ·         Communicate with Site Foreman and crew personnel regularly to get all necessary information for the current phase of installation as well as the broader project scope.
    ·         Assist as directed in pre-mob, mobilization, production and de-mob.
    ·         Participate in production as directed by Site Foreman.
    ·         Understand and maintain quality control during installation.
    ·         Look for ways to educate and train less experienced crew members.
    ·         Be reliable with instructions and gain the trust and support of crew members.
    ·         Promote onsite project safety through action.
    ·         Encourage all crew members to represent ProTech in a safe, professional manner performing all daily tasks efficiently and profitably within published ProTech protocols and systems.
    ·         Constant QC monitoring during installation.
    ·         Promote onsite project safety through action.
    ·         Attend and participate in toolbox meetings.
    ·         Review daily project schedule information by email after 5:00 p.m.
    ·         Show competence in clocking in and out of time tracking software.
                
                AS NEEDED
    ·         Attend onsite project meetings when invited.
    ·         Attend crew meetings
    ·         Report system violations to the Director of Operations 
     
    MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE
    ·         Documented growth in knowledge and proficiency with ProTech’s installation systems/methods.
    ·         Documented growth in knowledge and proficiency with materials ProTech installs.
    ·         Documented growth in knowledge and proficiency with equipment.
    ·         All the above to be measured against ProTech’s published Skilled Laborer skill sets.
    ·         The presence of or lack of system violations. 
    ·         Safety record
     
    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: 
     
    ·         The Skilled Laborer reports directly to the Foreman but will receive guidance and assistance from the Concrete Finishers, Equipment Operators, Superintendent and Project Manager as necessary. 
    ·         In the absence of the Site Foreman, the Skilled Laborer reports to the assigned Equipment Operator.
     
    AUTHORITY:
     
    The Skilled Laborer has the overall authority to take any reasonable action necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position, consistent with established Company policies, good industry practices and sound, ethical business judgment.  This includes providing information, material, support service, tools, hardware, or anything else required to perform the work within the established limitations.  The Skilled Laborer has a duty to correct the General Laborer and report any unsafe practices to a supervisor.
