Political Data Scientist

Precision Strategies, a leading digital, data, and communications firm, is seeking a stellar political data scientist to join the Data & Analytics team. The position is an integral part of the research and campaign execution process at Precision, serving internal data processing and acquisition needs, elevating the agency’s insights development and audience, voter, and influencer targeting capabilities, and helping define the roadmap for Precision’s proprietary suite of analytics tools and research software. This role will report the Head of Data & Analytics and work closely with the team on client research deliverables for high-profile political, non-profit, and corporate clients. 

As part of Precision’s integrated strategy, data analysis serves as the inspiration and guidance for PR campaigns, advertising, email marketing programs, strategic communications, voter segmentation, audience insights, crisis management, and much more. We are looking for someone who can work with staff at all levels and independently manage client relationships that lead to revolutionary insights. 

Primary responsibilities of the Political Data Scientist include, but are not limited to:
  • Building, maintaining, and owning scalable data pipelines to support various data integrations 
  • Helping maintain our data warehouse architecture and infrastructure including our proprietary dashboard and reporting system
  • Developing and interpreting audience models and perform voter segmentation research, including statistical analysis and projections 
  • Designing and building dashboards and reports to help drive business decisions
  • Supporting ad-hoc data analysis or reporting needs from teammates or customers
  • Mentoring and coaching teammates to improve their skills and introduce new skills
  • Effectively translating statistical findings into actionable recommendations for senior leaders on domain expert, product, and other teams
  • Determining opportunities for automation, visualization, and analysis using Tableau, R, Python, Spark, Pentaho, Kettle or other languages or use platforms such as Civis, Deck, Qualtrics, Toluna, SEMRush, Netbase, and others to perform modeling, social listening, or search insights 
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a focus in MIS, computer science, mathematics, engineering, statistics, science, or other quantitative fields
  • Experience working in data analysis using SQL and querying or development
  • Experience working with political data modeling platforms like Civis
  • Python or R and their corresponding libraries for Data Science
  • Experience with AWS data services: Redshift, S3, Data Lake, Spark, DynamoDB, RDS is desired but not essential
  • Experience with reporting and dashboarding tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, Zeppelin, ThoughtSpot, and JasperSoft is highly desired
  • Experience with data extraction, manipulation and blending across different data sources (Google Analytics, ADP, ERP, Oracle, SQL Server, Snowflake, AWS, Salesforce, flat files, etc.)

Required Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex issues for a wide audience
  • Self-starter with ability to independently balance multiple priorities and projects
  • Comfortable deconstructing complex and open-ended problems which may not yield a clear cut solution
  • Strong track record of learning new tools, technologies, and frameworks
  • Ability to travel less than 10% of the time
