Hardware Engineering Intern (Summer)

The Company
PillBot Inc, a medical device and data analytics startup based in Philadelphia, is looking for a part-time hardware engineering intern to assist in the development of a set of hardware-related tasks over the summer. PillBot empowers healthcare professionals to diagnose, prevent, and if necessary, treat substance abuse while patients are at home. With a completely secure, smart, and automatic mini pill dispenser, PillBot only allows patients to take their addictive medication exactly when prescribed by their doctor. Over the course of the prescription, PillBot monitors patients and reports adherence data back to their physician.

Since its incorporation last year at the University of Pennsylvania, PillBot has attracted the attention of multiple VC firms/incubators and raised more than $50,000 in cash and services. The core product is nearing completion and we are currently setting up a clinical trial to begin by the end of Q3 2019.

The Job
To complete its product and launch a trial, PillBot needs to implement a few auxiliary devices. As a hardware engineer intern at PillBot, you will have the chance to lead the development of one or several of these devices from conception to completion, and gain real experience working in a fast-paced startup environment. Interns can work remotely, but will be expected to be available to conference with team members on a regular basis. Any hardware development costs will be paid for by the firm, but preapproval for purchases will be necessary.

  • Excellent written and oral communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Work to define and create small IoT devices (via Cellular, BT, or WiFi) from concept to fruition.
  • Assist on system integration debug (including software, firmware, and hardware).
