Business Intelligence Data Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:
As a data engineer and analyst you’ll be responsible for data modeling, ETL design, and report building for a growing arm of Peerfit’s business. This will include:
  • Developing creative technical solutions to business problems
  • Gathering requirements for new data solutions and ad hoc requests
  • Understanding the cause and impact of system bugs  

You will be joining a growing team of data professionals who are working to bring scalability and maturity to data and business intelligence operations. The ideal candidate should be prepared to take the lead on improving accuracy, automation, and scalability of operational and financial reporting. Experience working collaboratively across application, infrastructure, and analyst teams is crucial along with discipline performing as a self starter and communicating diligently within a fully remote organization. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
You will design, implement, and maintain end-to-end data warehouse systems using ETL pipelines to collect necessary data from our consumer application and various third party data sources. You will model data and validate its integrity to drive reporting, analysis, and forecasting, and must be able to speak intelligently about the results of data analysis to other members of the Peerfit team. You will also work as a peer with our application and infrastructure engineers to ensure proper separations of data concerns are in place system wide. Finally you will also occasionally work with external business customers to securely collect and store member eligibility data.

You will also collaborate with the other functional groups that make up the Product team (Data, Backend, Frontend Web, Native mobile, Design, Infrastructure, and Operations) and with Peerfit’s client-facing teams (Sales, Operations, Finance, Strategy). 

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional experience in business intelligence and data analysis (2+ years)
Strong math and statistical skills
Competent in SQL (2+ years, MySQL or PostgreSQL preferred)
Experience building ETL pipelines and data warehousing systems (2+ years)
Comfortable with open source tooling (sed, grep, vim) and languages (Python, bash) (2+ years)

NICE TO HAVES:
Comfort with Git and Django
Experience with Looker and Segment
Experience in financial analysis and/or GDPR compliance
Familiar with Google Cloud offerings like BigQuery and Dataflow

EDUCATIONAL GUIDELINES:
Bachelor’s degree in computer or information sciences, mathematics, economics, or statistics, or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.
