ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The network Architect is empowered to support the PAXIO network for expansion, reliability, and high-quality services. This position is hands-on focused in day-to-day operations of a growing regional IP network
DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Participate in the design, support, and implementation of multi-vendor networks (Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia, Juniper)
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities, and drive solutions to improve productivity especially around network validation and reliability
- Establish standards and best practices for implementing networking especially around network validation and reliability
- Define monitoring objectives and systems for both per-circuit and backbone infrastructure
- Manage network releases, ensure that patches for network systems are vetted and communicate with partners on maintenance updates and their scope.
- Capacity planning and management in a complex networking environment
- Troubleshoot complex problems and develop innovative solutions to improve service quality, mean-time-to-service turn-up, and technical support
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Implement corrective action
- Work with stakeholders and partners to establish and refine the Tier 2 call and ticketing support system to reduce on-call escalations to PAXIO Staff
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for project & service delivery, such as client services, construction, and fiber operations.
- Author useful documentation for internal peers and external partners, comfortable presenting content to parties with diverse technical knowledge
- Create & update diagrams reflecting physical & logical network infrastructure
- Maintain internal standards documentation, hold training events
- Participate in project meetings and perform data networking design reviews - from high-level architecture through various technologies, configurations, and parameters to meet goals
- Lead audits and advise on other corporate options for improvement
- Engaging and mentoring team members
- Keep abreast of new technologies and processes and see how they can be strategically incorporated into the company
- Can be in a Tier 2 on-call rotation
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND SKILLS
Required:
- Working (not theoretical) of IPv4 / IPv6 routing, MPLS, BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, and related protocols knowledge
- A positive attitude towards stressful situations, tight deadlines, and sharing knowledge
- Strong collaboration and partnering skills with both internal and external point of contacts, comfortable escalating when appropriate
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels of the organization and to gain and maintain credibility when delivering difficult messages under stressful situations.
- Experience managing simultaneous projects involving team members
- Solid understanding of ITIL processes and best practices
- Strong command of the English language and the ability to effectively translate technical issues and circumstances to non-technical personnel
- Must be confident and personable and able to deal effectively with a variety of personalities
- An effective mentor to provide professional and technical guidance to other staff members.
- Ability to organize work in an efficient manner.
- Organized, detail oriented, and a superior multitasker.
- Lead by example
- 4-7 plus years of network design experience
- Experience with Telecommunications and FTTH.
- Experience working with a distributed team.
- Background in data analysis and processing.
- CI/CD framework automation: Circle CI, Packer, Jenkins
- Metrics and reporting: Splunk, AWS Config, AWS SNS, CloudWatch Coordination and collaboration tools: Jira, Confluence, Slack, GSuite
Plus:
- Wireless path engineering & deployment - both licensed and unlicensed vendors, such as Ubiquiti, Mimosa, and Siklu
- JNCIA certified
- Familiar/working knowledge of Packetfront’s BECS provisioning system.
- Languages: Python, Bash, Ruby (knowledge of Java, Go, or SQL a plus)
