Job Purpose

Opya, Inc., in association with OO Speech Services, is looking for an Occupational Therapist to provide clinic-based and possibly in-home early intervention for children age 12 months through young adulthood. Clients served to include those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in addition to a variety of other diagnoses. The Occupational Therapist will be part of our team of clinicians including Speech-Language Pathologists, Feeding Therapists, Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Intervention Specialists, and Behavior Technicians.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments addressing areas such as fine motor skills, gross motor skills, ADL’s, development and sensory processing
  • Design and implement individualized treatment plans for children diagnosed with ASD and other developmental disorders
  • Implement 1:1 and group interventions in the clinic and home settings
  • Provide client-centered treatment plans to address individual needs for skill development
  • Produce progress reports and treatment plans to meet the requirements and submission timelines of regulatory agencies and funding sources
  • Provide parent education and strategies on how to implement therapy goals in the home and community settings for generalization
  • Collect and analyze session data as well as review and adjust treatment goals, when required, to ensure appropriate client progress is being made
  • Maintain accurate documentation of sessions that meet the requirements of regulatory agencies and funding sources and aligns with HIPAA
  • Communicate clearly, respectfully and openly with all team members, associated providers, clients and parents/caregivers
  • Complete timely rendering of services in line with company policy
  • Attend meetings and training as requested
  • Use the company’s scheduling and billing system to ensure timely billing practices
  • Attend parent, staff and team meetings and training as requested
  • Other duties/projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with children diagnosed with ASD or other developmental disabilities
  • Experience in diagnosing, treating, and educating caregivers about Sensory Processing Disorder
  • Early intervention experience and/or experience with Autism preferred
  • Must be positive, energetic and creative
  • Timely, reliable, and committed
  • Effective written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in Google Docs

Requirements

  • Current CA OTR/ license
  • Master’s degree and/or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy. Those with a Bachelor’s degree who have been grandfathered in will be considered based on experience
  • US Citizen or Green Card holder
  • DOJ/FBI clearance
  • Valid California Driver's license
  • Reliable transportation and valid Automobile Insurance
  • Negative TB test
  • Current vaccines

Working Conditions

Employees in this position work in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and the ability to respond to changing goals, priorities and needs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate but can be high, depending on the individual client.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, twisting, pointing, grasping, holding and manipulating small objects, in order to observe, assess, and interact with clients; ability to move quickly/run and physically assist clients.
  • Ability to stand and/or sit on a floor and chairs for extended periods of time; stand for up to 6-8 hours a day.
  • Frequent looking, speaking and listening (50%) to clients, staff, and other professionals in meetings and on the phone.
  • May involve driving (to and from office and client homes) if the therapist sees a client in home or visits clients at other sites
  • Occasional sitting in a chair and maintaining close visual attention to write reports and work at the computer.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, and loading/unloading toys and materials up to and including 25 lbs. 
  • Ability to physically implement behavior management strategies including responding to physically aggressive behavior.
  • Ability to utilize a computer, cell phone (iPhone), fax machine, telephone, and copy machine.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and using written language effectively and professionally within the workplace.
