PRN Respiratory Therapist

We are seeking a PRN ("as needed") Respiratory Therapist in Sarasota for 12 hour day shifts or overnight shifts (6pm-6am or 6am-6pm)

PRN employees are required to work a minimum of two shifts per month (1 weekend shift and 1 weekday shift)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Restores and/or supports client’s pulmonary function; alleviates pain; supports life by planning and administering medically prescribed respiratory therapy.

JOB DUTIES

  • Meets client's goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations of client’s respiratory status and test results; determining respiratory therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians and by prescription.
  • Helps client accomplish treatment plan and supports life by administering inhalants; operating mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
  • Administers respiratory therapy treatments by performing bronchopulmonary drainage; assisting with breathing exercises; monitoring physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes; directing treatments given by nurses, aides, technicians and assistants.
  • Evaluates effects of respiratory therapy treatment plan by observing, noting, and evaluating client's progress; recommending adjustments and modifications.
  • Completes discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, program coordinators, and other treatment team members; contributing to client’s program.
  • Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing home exercise programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment, education, and instruction.
  • Documents daily client care services.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protects clients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Develops respiratory therapy staff by providing information; developing and conducting in-service training programs.
  • Develops respiratory assessment and treatment skills education as appropriate for nurse and non-licensed staff.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal and certification requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Must maintain a current Florida Respiratory Therapist license and have an eligible level 2 background screen result.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Working in a climate-controlled and well-lighted environment with a smoke-free policy. May be subject to interruptions, noise, and odors daily.
