Summary: Provides assistance with daily duties on the bookmobile in a substitute capacity. Duties for a bookmobile librarian assistant may include driving and staffing the bookmobile, providing library services to schools, senior centers and other facilities, as well as maintaining the bookmobile's materials. This position works consistently within NCRL standards and policy directives and all applicable laws. Supports the library’s mission of “Connecting the people of North Central Washington to vital resources and opportunities that foster individual growth and strengthen communities”.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Bookmobile Support
- Prepares the bookmobile for site visits.
- May drive to and from locations, if necessary, according to the bookmobile schedule.
- Assists patrons at scheduled stops with bookmobile materials.
Customer Service
- Responds promptly to patron needs or requests for service and assistance.
- May assist patrons in the use of electronic equipment and databases.
- Responds to questions.
- Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.
Collaboration
- Works well with bookmobile staff, other staff and outside organizations in the process of completing daily tasks or procedures.
- Models professionalism for colleagues and promotes a positive organizational culture by word and by example.
Communication
- Promotes and models courteous, respectful, and timely communication.
- Gives and welcomes constructive, respectful feedback while building team spirit.
- Writes and speaks clearly, courteously and effectively.

Qualifications
Required
- High School diploma or GED.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions.
- Ability to effectively communicate information to patrons.
- Comfortable with basic computer and technological skills.
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks and be detail-oriented.
- Must be able to respond to patrons in a timely, courteous and professional manner.
Preferred
- Fluent in English and Spanish
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee will need to be able to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, and peripheral vision. The employee may be required to drive a vehicle, often for extended time periods. Employee may be requested to assist patrons with assistance boarding and exiting the bookmobile.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be louder during programs.
