Chief Spacecraft Engineer

The Chief of Space Engineering will lead the technical development of Momentus’s breakthrough line of space flight systems. This position will require hands on and inspiring leadership of the design, development, and test of the Vigoride, Ardoride and Fervoride flight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of vehicle design, qualification, and operation, while ensuring that the team completes its goals on time and within budget. This position will directly impact the development of a new service based model of in space transportation and will require the ability to inspire and lead a highly qualified small team of technical specialists covering all aspects of flight system development and operations. 

Responsibilities
  • Engage in the entire design cycle of system development picking from conceptual design through detailed design and analysis, qualification testing, integration, and mission support 
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and business development to define requirements, dependencies, and schedule needs associated with delivering flight systems 
  • Lead team-based identification, decomposition, and estimation of work scope for full lifecycle hardware development 
  • Manage project schedule, resources, and cost – present status of effort, including risks, variances and recovery plans to program management 
  • Develop and integrate project schedule(s) and integrated master program schedule 
  • Plan to and maintain integrated budget forecast, as well as actual costs, and provided status including risks, variances and recovery plans to program management 

Qualifications
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in an engineering field (mechanical or aerospace engineering preferred) 
  • 5+ years of industry experience in engineering project management for aerospace or equivalent-type systems 
  • Experience leading at least 1 space flight system develope project, managing requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, cost, and communications to include detailed engineering integration and launch 
  • Experience with small project resource controls, risk management, project planning 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in technical work environments 
  • Experience and ability to work independently on rapid development programs 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum 

Desired
  • Masters or Engineers degree or professional aerospace engineering certification 
  • Attention to detail, organization, and high level of accuracy 
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in multiple spacecraft or space mission subsystem or discipline areas such such as fluid/thermal/mechanical systems; structures; avionics; systems engineering; astrodynamics mission design; operations; attitude control and/or flight qualification processes 
  • Demonstrated experience in agile development processes, rapid decision making, and short turn-around test, analysis, design, fabrication, and integration cycles
