Senior Hardware Designer - Electrical

Miovision is building cutting-edge hardware to bring traffic infrastructure into the 21st century. Our hardware supports a revolutionary way to monitor and administer traffic networks from anywhere. We’re looking for a Senior Hardware Designer - Electrical to lead us across all stages of product development, encompassing component selection, board design, product testing, and qualification. The candidate will work within the hardware team and report to the Sr. Director of Hardware Development and Manufacturing. 

What you’ll do: 
  • Drive hardware NPI to a defined schedule, budget and product requirement
  • Design schematic and layout for new hardware
  • Define and design hardware for compliance standards according to market requirements
  • Define and design hardware for manufacturing, test, and procurement requirements
  • Produce technical requirements and detailed electrical design documentation from product requirements
  • Perform board bring-up and complete electrical verification testing on prototypes
  • Conduct design reviews and participate in test plan creation
  • Manage the release of PCB designs to internal PLM system and external CM
  • Design and build production fixtures for in-process quality control processes including ESS and burn-in
  • Perform deep-dive analysis on production or field failures escalated through the quality team
  • Participate in root-cause analysis for systemic hardware issues
  • Define specifications for, select, and validate off the shelf hardware including power supplies, hard drives, and cameras
  • Manage hardware vendors (PCB, connectors, memory, etc) against selection criteria and quality indicators
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute as a subject matter expert on electrical design

What you have:
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
  • At least 8 years experience designing rugged hardware products with mixed signal PCBs, power electronics, and wireless (cell, wifi, gps, bluetooth)
  • Experience leading end to end hardware design including concept, prototyping, schematic capture, layout, compliance, and manufacturing
  • Experience with FCC compliance for intentional and unintentional radiators
  • Exceptional PCB layout skills with particular experience laying out BGAs, DDR, USB,  SATA, I2C, and SPI
  • Ability to debug and bring up new hardware using standard lab equipment (soldering iron, oscilloscope, VNA, spectrum analyzer, etc)
  • Experience designing for test (ICT, flying probe, IST), procurement, manufacturing, and industrial conditions (-40C to 80C, vibe, shock, etc)

Additional Assets: 
  • Experience with Altium and Arena PLM
  • Experience with cell carrier certification
  • Experience with electromechanical integration, especially thermal design considerations
