Production & Ops Associate - Custom/Wholesale

We opened our first store in 2010 in San Francisco, bought a VW bus soon after, and since then we've been pretty busy--building a great brand, opening another 40 (and counting!) stores, and--most importantly--continuing to make awesome, super soft clothing.  While we still sell the majority of our clothes through our retail and web channels, we have successfully launched a rapidly growing custom & wholesale business. Our Custom & Wholesale Team works with brands, independent retailers and marketing partners to get more Marine Layer in front of new audiences, and we need someone who can join the team, and support production and the supply chain for the growth of these channels.

We're looking for a Production & Operations Associate who can lead both the product supply chain for this channel, as well as downstream operations and logistics with customers and end users.  We need someone who can communicate effectively with our vendors and internal stakeholders and who can balance priorities and timelines to deliver product on time. We need you to be detail-oriented, process driven and deadline focused, while also acting as an authentic brand advocate and representative of our seven-day weekend lifestyle. A successful candidate will thrive in a collaborative and highly dynamic start-up environment, excited to take on new challenges and help grow a new business channel.

Specifically, this role will:

  • Drive the end to end production process with our vendor partners for all custom product and special orders; from PO creation to delivery in warehouse;
  • Own all communication for custom orders with our vendor partners;
  • Place orders and manage inventory in Netsuite ERP;
  • Partner with Production to balance priorities, understand timing and efficiently deliver wholesale product;
  • Partner with Tech Design & Sourcing to work w/ manufacturers to develop new styles, processes, and samples
  • Manage product to achieve cost objectives of the Custom and Wholesale team
  • Own ex-factory efficiency: manage logistics, production timelines and shipping details (and be excited to improve these processes over time)

QUALIFICATIONS: (it bodes well if you have the below)

A Fantastic Communicator.
The successful candidate for this position is able to communicate clearly externally (with vendors), and internally (with cross functional teams). You are organized, self-motivated and accountable with excellent verbal and written communication skills, and high standards for vendor support.

Be Dynamic
Things change quickly and big projects can come in at any time. We will need you to be ready to react to changing priorities and execute within a fast paced environment.

Multi-Tasker.
Many jobs say you need to be a multi-tasker; for this one, we really mean it.  We’re looking for someone who can balance managing the competing priorities in production and support our supply chain processes all while keeping the stakeholders in the loop. Being someone who likes to balance different projects simultaneously is vital.

Driven to Build Something Great.
Hmmm, how to say this politely, this isn’t your standard corporate gig.  We’re on the precipice of something really special, but we’re not there yet, and there will be plenty of heavy lifting ahead.   The road before us is going to be challenging and we’re looking for someone who embraces that and is eager to play a key part in getting us to the next level.

An Authentic Brand Advocate.
It’s incredibly important that you have a connection to Marine Layer, our clothes, and our mission.  You should know the brand, like the brand, and understand what it takes to represent the company in an authentic way.  Outside of retail, our wholesale and custom team is the most external facing team in the company.

Fine Print: we ask that you have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2-3 years operational/logistical experience
  • Production or Supply Chain experience is a plus
  • Experience with Netsuite and Excel is a major plus

Marine Layer is proud to be an equal opportunity employer that welcomes applicants and employees of all genders, races, backgrounds, orientations, and nationalities. #whateveryoureinto
