What we want to accomplish and why we’re hiring you
Suki is creating a new category in the health tech space - the digital assistant. We are going to be the voice user interface for healthcare. What does that mean exactly? Currently doctors use their electronic medical record system to track patient encounters (a digital version of the old paper charts you used to see in the doctor’s office and on TV). These systems can be hard to navigate and very time consuming to manage. Time that doctors would rather have to spend with their patients. This is the problem we’re solving right now! Doctors that use Suki spend 50%+ less time on administrative tasks and we’re striving to do even better.
We are a product driven company. Suki has one product running as a single service and we’re focused on making that world class. We’re a cloud native company using the latest and greatest technologies built on top of Google Cloud. Our machine learning team consists of engineers with experience in speech, deep learning, and natural language processing. Our current ML tech stack includes TensorFlow, scikit, Google Datalab, among others.
What will you do everyday?
You will be responsible for the data and corpora used by the machine learning team, including normalizing, cleansing, and maintaining access to the data. These corpora can include medical knowledge as well as customer data from our users. A particularly interesting – and also challenging – aspect is that at Suki we often deal with sensitive patient medical data, so data security will surely be among your first thoughts. As part of that role you will collaborate with other engineering teams such as the machine learning scientists and the infrastructure team, as well as coordinating with the operations team on data collection and tagging efforts.
Ok, you're sold, but what are we looking for in the perfect candidate?
- Collaboration: you’re able to work with lots of different groups who have diverse backgrounds and needs
- Communication: you can clearly describe specifics of things you need or things you’ve created to audiences that may not always have your depth of understanding of a topic
- Commitment: you care about quality; data that can’t be used bothers you immensely
- Adaptability: you thrive in a fast-moving organization that uses light-weight process and cutting-edge technology to have a huge impact
- Empathy: you want to empower others and feel bad when they feel bad
Requirements*
- Experience working with large natural language and/or speech data sets
- Background or understanding of medical concepts is especially helpful
- Experience using NLP libraries such as nltk or spacy
- Experience using data extraction and parsing libraries, such as pandas, particularly in Python
- Experience in data retrieval from various sources including SQL Databases, No SQL, and messaging systems, and efficient storage and loading of data sets
- Experience working in cloud environments, in particular Google Cloud
- Knowledge of machine learning data and training tasks, including parallelization or online learning
* Requirements is such a strong word. We don’t necessarily expect to find a candidate that has done everything we’ve listed, but you should be able to make a credible case that you’ve done most of it and are ready for the challenge of adding some new things to your resume.
