Cardiopulmonary Technician

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The mission of the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) is to provide Aerospace Medicine Training, Education, and Consultation to Enhance Warfighter Performance and Combat Casualty Care for Worldwide Operations in Garrison and War. It is the center for aeromedical education, training, and consultation in direct support of USAF, DOD, and in operations. USAFSAM provides peacetime and contingency support in hyperbaric, human performance, clinical and environmental health, expeditionary medical support, and aeromedical evacuation. This effort includes tasks and activities to be performed by the contractor in support of USAFSAM Aeromedical Consultation Service Internal Medicine Branch (USAFSAM/FECI). The candidate shall provide direct administrative and technical support to FECI with day to day operations, patient case review processing/scheduling, and management of FECI calendar.

DESCRIPTION OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

The candidate shall have...

  • Three (3) years of experience performing adult echocardiograms (or documentation of greater than 100 adult echocardiography image acquisition studies each within the last 3 years). 
  • Three (3) years of experience performing (or documentation of greater than 100 studies each within the last 3 years) ECG acquisition and holter/event ECG monitoring. 
  • Registration as an echocardiogram technician by having passed the credentialing examination administered by either: the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and achieving the Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDSC) designation; or by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) achieving the Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) designation.

NOTE: Prior training in pulmonary function testing and broncho-provocation testing is highly desired and will be considered a strength.

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS

The candidate shall...

  • Provide non-invasive cardiopulmonary testing to include exercise stress testing, stress echocardiography, adult echocardiograms, ambulatory electro-cardiographic (ECG) monitoring, pulmonary function testing, and broncho-provocation testing. 
  • Perform the listed test on evaluees as ordered by the medical providers and these tests are interpreted by medical providers.
  • Process and input test data into computer databases, and assisting in the generating and distributing Aerospace Medicine CaseReports.
  • Perform cardiopulmonary laboratory administrative, maintenance, and support functions. Ensures equipment is calibrated to manufacturer's specifications. Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes (or prepares for sterilization) cardiopulmonary equipment. Operationally checks and inspects equipment.
  • Support associated physicians in the Internal Medicine Branch with research protocols.
  • Determine inventory level of disposable supplies; stocks accordingly; and returns excess stock. Prepares equipment requisitions. Assist in maintenance of CPR cart. 
  • Ensure all emergency equipment is available and functional.
