Clinical Psychology Researcher

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: 
 
This Task Order (TO) is issued under the 711th HPW (711 HPW) Mission Support Services Basic Contract. Services shall include scientific research design, professional update of the scientific literature, development of a data spreadsheet with criterion and predictor variables, administration and collection of cognitive aptitude and personality testing data and training outcome data, as well as discussion of the results, authorship of research technical reports, presentation of study results to AF leadership, as well as overall project management.  Support shall require contractor employees to interface with USAFSAM/FH Aeromedical Research staff, 711th Human Performance Wing (711th HPW) staff, USAF Major Operations Command (MAJCOM) staff, Air & Education Training Command (AETC/A3), Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC) and Headquarters Air Force United States Surgeon General (HQ/USAFSG) staff.  This effort includes tasks and activities to be performed by the contractor employees, to support research on data as predictive of subsequent performance outcome measures to special warfare and other high risk, high demand airmen training and operational performance.

DESCRIPTION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Doctoral degree in clinical psychology and an active state license to practice clinical psychology for over the past 10 years.
 
  • Background and familiarization with USAF aircrew, special duty, and intelligence communities, as well as at least 4 years of experience working with and providing mental health care to USAF personnel and serving in a leadership capacity.  
 
  • 3 years work experience in a USAF clinic providing mental health care to USAF personnel as a licensed psychologist.  The contractor employee shall be thoroughly familiar with USAF culture, and organizational structure.  
 
  • Be familiar and have experience with performing psychological testing and assessment of USAF airmen and interactions with multiple AF agencies (medical as well as line leadership).   
 
  • Ten (10) years of experience in behavioral science research, working with active duty and Department of Defense (DoD) military line commanders and personnel, as well as experience writing professional technical reports.
 
  • Ten (10) years of experience with publishing peer reviewed USAF technical reports journals regarding psychological assessment and predictors of training and or health outcomes with special warfare and combat support training candidates.  

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:

  • Cultivate plans, regarding data analyses, professional electronic presentations, and report development in consultation with USAFSAM/FESP Aeromedical operational Psychology staff.  Plans shall address research objectives outlined by USAFSAM/FESP staff.  The contractor employee shall assist USAFSAM/FESP staff in the analyses of pre and post accession psychological testing (e.g., cognitive and personality testing) as well as training/operational performance outcome measures.
 
  • Coordinate with Special Duty Career field Managers, AFPC and AETC, as needed, to understand psychological testing (cognitive and personality) and relevant training and operator outcome data available for analyses.  The contractor employee shall assist USAFSAM/FESP staff in the analyses of outcome data, regarding AF special duty training candidates and special duty operators in relation to pre & post accession psychological testing data. 
 
  • Assist USAFSAM/FESP staff in the review, understanding, and application of relevant scientific literature related to selection of special warfare and combat support training candidates and participate in related discussion with USAFSAM/FESP staff. 
 
  • Discuss performance outcome measures with USAFSAM/FESP staff obtained by AETC units, in coordination with training instructors and commanders.  The contractor employee shall discuss how training outcome data is applicable to research objectives defined by the project statistician and USAFSAM staff, as needed.
 
  • Collaborate with project statistician, regarding predictive associations of collected data, identifying variables associated with special warfare and combat support operator characteristics, as well as psychological test scores related to performance outcomes. 
 
  • Coordinate with USAFSAM/FESP staff to provide recommendations in written research manuscripts, related to aeromedical policy, evaluation and waiver process of airmen aeromedically disqualified for special operations duty, as well as operational psychology readiness assessment processes of applicants for AF special duty career fields. 
 
  • Prepare report of scientific results, in support of publication in the scientific literature at the direction and input of USAFSAM/FESP staff.  The number of presentations, reports, and papers shall be determined based upon the relevance of research findings as they become available.  No fewer than two (2) annual technical reports on special duty career fields identified as critical to operations will be required unless otherwise directed by the principal investigator. 
 
  • Work with the project team to maintain confidentiality of test data and contents of technical reports that are deemed sensitive and not releasable to the general public.  
 
  • If there is an unexpected interruption in research capabilities and/or reduction in workload, the contractor employee shall support research endeavors in support of additional USAFSAM/FESP related investigations, as required and commensurate with their qualifications.
