JOB OBJECTIVE:
The Bartender at The Armory Club should be confident, approachable, well groomed and able to find solutions to issues while providing attentive service in a high volume environment. A positive attitude and desire to put in a good day's work are desirable qualities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Base knowledge of products, as well as understanding of production (distillery, winery, brewery) and current trends of in-house production techniques.
- Applicant's working knowledge of spirit, wine and beer history does not have to be encyclopedic but a desire to expand upon this is expected.
- Ultimately, we are seeking professionals who excel in a team environment and have a long-term commitment to the bar industry.
- Basic cocktail knowledge a given, elevated experience with advanced beverage programs preferred.
- Multiple venue experience in neighborhood bars, restaurants, clubs and lounges with a range of capacities and eclectic promoted events.
- Proven ability to maintain speed and provide excellent customer service in many bar configurations: rail, circular, horseshoe and satellite.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge and Skills:
- Versed in European beer styles, their American adaptations, and working knowledge of basic beer terminology along with interest in California, west & east coast U.S. and Belgium brands.
- Interest in current wine trends, experience with wine outside of California.
- "Other side of the bar" service experience in restaurants a plus, especially in those with refined standards of service.
- Growth from support roles such as barback, cocktail server, door person, etc. is preferred.
- Background as a bar manager, closing bartender, or shift supervisor is a plus but not mandatory.
- ServSafe Certified.
Abilities:
- Ability to digest and present information about wine that expresses confidence.
- Ability to remain calm in a fast paced, stressful environment.
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs.
Education and Experience:
- 1 year experience executing some form of craft cocktail program: classic menu with house made ingredients, signature cocktail menu with unique spirits, original tiki, or any involved program above standard.
- 2 years experience in a high volume bar, preferably as a high ring bartender with strong clientele.
- Fine Dining Restaurant experience preferred.
