About the Job
Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate manufacturing engineer to join our team with a focus in Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems (EWIS), taking prototype work to a manufacturing level and bringing together engineering, manufacturing, and integration. The engineer will be responsible for manufacturing definition of flight critical wire harness assemblies and electromechanical interconnection systems, as well as communicating those details to the manufacturing and integration teams. This individual must be highly organized and self-driven while possessing a deep understanding of manufacturability and quality control. This position is exciting and rewarding, as the engineer will promptly see their ideas grow from concept to creation due to the fast pace of Joby Aviation.

Responsibilities
  • Build out new processes optimizing efficiency and ensuring quality to aerospace standards
  • Design manufacturing aids and equipment, such as formboards, fixtures, tools, etc.
  • Produce easy to follow prints and shop floor drawings
  • Drive manufacturing BOM created from PLM solution
  • Work with technicians to support manufacturing and integration

Required
  • B.S. in Manufacturing, Industrial, Systems, or Mechanical engineering OR substantial hands-on manufacturing experience
  • 3+ years of working experience in relevant industry 
  • Excellent problem solving and teamwork skills, working with many people and teams
  • Experience in prototype manufacturing in a professional environment
  • Strong background developing process documentation
  • Proficiency with CAD, such as Catia, Pro/E, SolidWorks, etc.

Desired
  • M.S./Ph.D. in relevant discipline
  • 5+ years of working experience in relevant industry
  • Understanding of ERP/MRP/MES solutions
  • Experience with Catia, specifically using Electrical Manufacturing Preparation, Electrical 3D Design, Assembly Design, and Part Design
  • Familiarity with EWIS aerospace standards, such as SAE AS50881, AC 43.13 Ch.11, ASTM F2639, etc.
