Job purpose
The Direct Support Professional is responsible for providing comprehensive personal care, guidance, and support to male or female clients respective to client specific needs. This position is also responsible for promoting client independence through appropriate role modeling, administering client program and goals, and ensuring the client’s personal needs are satisfied in a safe manner.
Duties and responsibilities
DSP staff job requirements may include but are not limited to assisting in behavioral and personal care services to enable the individuals we serve to reach their fullest potential and improve behavior, academic, social, and functional skills.
- Assist with activities of daily living as outlined in the individual’s plan and program
- Provide safe and continuous support in the home or community
- Accompany individuals on recreation and leisure activities, teach functional communication skills, implement behavior plans as written, and increase independence and productivity in the community
- Ability to understand and implement a variety of Behavior Support Plans and Individual Service Plans per individual outcomes and goals
- Ability to complete data on a daily basis in line with company expectations to ensure proper completion of time sheets and individual-specific charting and documentation
- Ability to attend, assist, and engage in team meetings as needed
- Ability to transport individuals safely in a personal vehicle as deemed appropriate to the individual’s goals
Qualifications
Qualified applicant must be at least 18 years of age and possess a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Other qualifications include:
- Clean background check with the Department of Human Services
- General computer skills/knowledge
- Reliable transportation that is insured in the state of Minnesota with a clean driving record
- Valid proof of insurance and current driver’s license
- CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
- Fluently read, understand, speak, and write the English Language
- Dynamic communication skills and techniques for working with and directing people with disabilities and challenges
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with individuals of varying needs and diagnoses
- Working cell phone with internet access
