Maritime Linux and Networking Technician

What you will do:

The primary role of the Maritime Linux and Network Technician will be to configure the MarineInsight analytics platforms both remotely and in the field. In addition, the Technician will also be responsible for helping the installation team build tools to help automate installation processes. 

Your responsibilities:
  • Local and remote configuration of the MarineInsight platform
  • Document individual vessel/customer configurations
  • Provide feedback to installation team to continue to improve installation and configuration processes
  • Participate in building and testing configuration tools with the rest of the deployment team
  • Follows-up with management regarding configuration status and customer engagement
  • Engage with customers when necessary to complete configuration process
 
Your Skills:
  • Strong understanding of computer, server, and network infrastructure with at least 5 years of experience
  • Experience working remotely using various connectivity tools
  • Understanding of intermediate to advanced networking concepts including  TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Routing, VLAN, IPSEC and SSL VPN, Firewalls and Wireless networks
  • Ability to configure switches, routers, firewalls, and VPN devices
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with shell scripting
  • Basic to intermediate experience with Python 
  • Server administration experience over a wide variety of Linux distributions 
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware
  • When working on a vessel:
  • Must be able to carry a tool bag weighing up to 30 pounds 
  • Able to enter and exit a standard horizontal and vertical manhole and climb vertical or inclined ladders
  • Understands safety procedures and use of safety equipment
  • Can work without direct supervision onboard to complete tasks
