The Position
The Mid-Level Designer is responsible for collaborating with the Principal, VP of Design, Director of Design and senior designers in the execution of the creation of a project's comprehensive interiors scheme, involving the coordination of interior architecture, space programming, space planning, FF&A, and color/materials. The Designer is a key component to the team to assist with design, selection, and specification of all furnishings, fixtures, and finishes (custom or commercially available) and is charged with the creative, technical, budgetary, operational, and design document coordination accountability for all facets of the interior FF&A package.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Principal, VP of Design, Design Director in the assistance with the conceptual development of a projects theme, character, design vocabulary, character, and mood.
- Review and assess client space program and planning efforts, providing input and confirmation to client and project team regarding fundamental issues of interior planning and design at onset of project and at all milestone reviews and work sessions.
- Research creative resources, ideas, historical precedent, materials, furnishings, fixtures, and finishes in collaboration with the Design Director and Design Manager to ensure that the best possible creative solutions and innovations are continually researched, reviewed, and incorporated as needed.
- Prepare cad drawings for design presentations of all FF&A, color selections, and finish/material specifications for both internal and external review and approval.
- Assist with all project specification budgets, tracking reports, design and specification schedules, and resource databanks for use throughout a project's duration.
- Working with the Senior Designer and Client/Owner's representative, confirm and coordinate all client requirements relative to FF&A and finishes, and communicate all design guidelines to project team to ensure timely and accurate incorporation of client requirements.
- Prepare and manage the FF&A Specification process from concept through construction administration.
- Work with senior designer/Director to get all all specification documents approved prior to issuance among peer consultants as well as Client/Owner, verifying accuracy of quantities, specification call-outs and conditions, approval by Principal, Director and/or Design Manager, adherence to client budget, and technical collaboration with architectural documents and schedules.
- Assist in the design all furniture and fixture plans and provide fully illustrative and correctly scaled drawings on architectural backgrounds to Project Architects for incorporation into design document set. Label all fixture and furniture plans on drawings for Project Architect with FF&A specification numbers and furniture schedules.
- Assist with all finish and specification information to Project Architect in the form of fully coordinated designations on all architectural backgrounds and material schedules, including finishes, hardware, fixtures, accessories and artwork.
- Assist the Design Manager with the preparation of internal design and documentation schedules and deliverable guidelines to ensure that all contractual objectives are fulfilled on-time and on-budget.
- Assist with all FF&A next-step deliverables throughout the design and coordination process
- Participate in design and documentation Quality Assurance reviews with design team prior to issuance of all milestone deliverable packages to peer consultants and owner.
- Assist the Senior Designer with leading internal and external design and coordination work-sessions, record all information to be disseminated among design team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors/Professional Degree in Architecture or Interior Design.
- Minimum of 5 years of design and project management experience with leading design organizations, including a minimum of 3 years’ experience in major hospitality and/or entertainment-related design projects.
- Must have worked on at least one major and significant resort hospitality project through construction administration with field and project close-out experience.
- Must have comprehensive experience and understanding of the total project process from concept to completion
- Proficient in AutoCAD, minimum of 2011.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Exchange, and Windows XP and Windows 7.
- Ability to work in a creative, collaborative, entrepreneurial, and fast paced team environment.
- Ability to approach all tasks with proactive thinking and a comprehensive plan of action.
- Must be self-motivated, self-directed, and possess strong leadership qualities.
- Must have an excellent personal presentation and possess the necessary skills and attributes to represent the qualitative character of company in all forums of communication and representation.
- Must be an articulate communicator, be capable of directing and coordinating the work of others and must be confident in ability to communicate and collaborate with clients and project peers both internally and externally.
- Must be amicable, enthusiastic, energetic, and possessive of a positive mind-set.
- Must be design sensitive, have finely tuned aesthetic sensibilities, and have broad design vocabulary in order to support high-profile clients, high-caliber design team, and high-end design projects with exceptional attention to detail.
- Must be able to comprehend and review client program narratives with senior designer, must understand fundamentals of space planning and adjacencies, and must be able to ensure adherence to overall program parameters as defined by client.
- Must be able to communicate visually through excellent drawing ability and/or illustration.
- Must be willing to fully enjoy work and optimize all opportunities to have fun while creating the most dynamic and exclusive resort/entertainment projects in the world.
Desired Qualifications
- International project and/or client experience within the past 2 years.
- Four and/or Five Star resort hospitality experience ideal.
- Computer Graphic skills, such as Adobe Photo Shop, Illustrator, etc.
- NCIDQ Interior Design accreditation.
- Previous experience working with clients and presenting to them.
Compensation
Depending on experience, certifications and portfolio
- Annual Base Salary, Range $50,000 - $65,000
