Team Lead- DBA

Job Summary: 
Under general supervision, The Lead Database Administrator will be responsible for the installation, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring and maintenance of databases in the company. The role includes building up a team for the development and design of database strategies, system monitoring and improving database performance, security, capacity, and planning for future expansion requirements. This role leads root cause analysist for performance issues, researches and participates in implementation of related new technologies. The Lead Database Administrator is responsible for leading and coaching the team members.  They may also plan, co-ordinate and implement security measures to safeguard the database.
Job Expectations:
  • Building up a team of database administrators through hiring, couching, and mentorship to take care of the tasks and duties of this role
  • Providing technical and professional leadership to the team to be able to perform their duties
  • Maintaining database security and take all security measures to make sure the corporate data is fully protected against unauthorized access and data theft
  • Constantly auditing access levels of individuals and groups who have access to the database.
  • Installing and upgrading the database server and application tools
  • Allocating system storage and planning future storage requirements for the database system
  • Modifying the database structure, as necessary, from information given by application developers verbally
  • Developing database queries for applications and programs as needed
  • Diagnosing database problems and coming up with resolutions
  • Ensuring compliance with database vendor license agreement
  • Controlling and monitoring user access to the database
  • Monitoring and optimizing the performance of the database
  • Planning for backup and recovery of database information
  • Maintaining archived data
  • Backing up and restoring databases
  • Contacting database vendor for technical support
  • Providing regular and effective status updates on team and projects
  • Generating various reports by querying from database as per need
  • Serves as the subject matter expert on DBA issues, improvements and implementations
  • Keeping up with new database technologies and trends
  • Act as example to all the members of the team by being the person who most closely follows the principles and practices we have committed to
  • Ultimately responsible for any issues or problems within the team and to make sure they are dealt with appropriately
  • Experience in optimizing query plans
  • Experience in database security
  • Experience in working with SQL profiler
  • Experience in working with high traffic databases
  • Experience in setting up and managing fail-over clusters
  • Experience in developing and managing SSIS packages
  • Experience in database mirroring and replications
  • Experience in setting up and optimizing NOSQL and document-oriented databases 
  • Experience in setting up and managing cloud-based database engines
  • Experience in working with MongoDB, Redis, and MySql
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and experience with Microsoft SQL Server
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases 
  • Strong knowledge of T-SQL and database programming
  • Strong knowledge of document-oriented database engines and model
  • Full understanding of database transactions and how they work.
  • Ability to take initiatives, build up teams, and manage people 
Experience Requirements:
Generally, requires a minimum of six (6) to ten (10) years of experience with the Microsoft SQL Server.:
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree required. A Master’s Degree in Computer Science is preferred
