Facilities Manager

Job Summary:

The Facilities Manager is responsible for the safe maintenance, repair or replacement of plant equipment and systems (both inside and outside on facility grounds), to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies, goals and objectives of the company.  Under general guidelines the Facilities Manager gives guidance, answers questions, monitors conditions of facility cleanliness and supports sanitation objectives and goals to assist the quality system.  The Facilities Manager is also  knowledgeable in cleaning practices, levels of cleaning importance relative to equipment and facility surfaces, responsible for educating workers regarding cleaning solution mixing and make-up, and ensures proper storage of cleaning agents.
 
Job Expectations:

  • Must have solid skills in supporting and maintaining all components in material handling systems such as AS/RS, automated conveyors, high speed sorters, electrical and mechanical, and PLCs
  • Directs and manages facilities maintenance team and subcontractors
  • Maintain automation and facilities to ensure operational objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost effective manner
  • Maintain existing plant facilities and equipment; replace, or make adjustments to plant facilities and equipment when necessary
  • Provide leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives
  • Participate in objective setting, plan development and performance review of facilities performance
  • Initiates, implements, and manages the plant maintenance program based on best practices
  • Prepares reports, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related problems
  • Ensures that maintenance team members are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner 
  • Communicates regularly with all maintenance team members, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues  
  • Assists with hiring of maintenance personnel 
  • Evaluates team member performance based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution of the maintenance team members  
  • Maintains and updates operating and training manuals for the maintenance department 
  • Ensures that all maintenance team members are trained on the most updated version of the operating procedures
  • Monitors operation of plant equipment and systems  
  • Ensure that all elements of cleaning within the plant are met
  • Cleaners and Materials - Responsible for ensuring that all chemicals used in the plant are approved for such use, and for working with Quality and Safety to ensure current SDS information is on site for these chemicals
  • Line Cleanup and Inspection – responsible for developing and training appropriate personnel on all steps of each plant cleanup. All cleanups must be completed in a timely manner with all product safety concerns in mind. The Facilities Manager along with the Quality Unit will be responsible for the training of all staff members conducting line equipment inspections and will follow up to ensure program integrity.
  • Will support the Pest Control Program
  • Ensure a safe and clean work environment and compliance with the cGMPs and FDA guidelines
  • Maintain confidentiality 
  • Adhere to work schedules in completing and performing assigned tasks

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
   Required:   
   
  • Knowledge of general warehouse practices and various types of equipment in maintenance trades
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work with hands in mechanically oriented situations
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, as well as interpret pencil sketches and diagrams
  • Knowledge of cGMP and food sanitation preferred
  • Must be able to read and write in the English language
  • Requires concentration, alertness and attention to detail
  • Requires the ability to work with others under minimal supervision
                                                     
Equipment Knowledge:
 
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Conveyor and computer (WMS) systems
 
Experience Requirements:

Generally requires a minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in the maintenance and/or operation of a process manufacturing facility.
 
Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or a combination of education and equivalent work experience.
