Director of Retail Operations


About the Position

We are seeking a Director of Retail Operations with significant professional experience in traditional retail and/or cannabis retail management. The Director of Retail Operations will be charged with operationalizing and managing existing and new recreational and medicinal dispensaries in the Los Angeles area.  

Key Operating Responsibilities include:
  • Develop and provide managerial oversight for all operational functions within our retail business segment, including:
  • Store-Level P&L
  • Inventory Control
  • Shipping and Receiving
  • Facilities Management
  • Security
  • Resource Planning/Staffing
  • Customer Experience
  • Employee Experience
  • Compliance and Reporting
  • Expense Management
  • Develop and implement hiring, training and management procedures for the on-site retail staff including store managers, assistant managers and retail staff
  • Implement Standard Operating Procedures including all systems and tools such as METRC, POS, and ERP 
  • Work with the Compliance Manager to ensure retail operations comply with all local and state statutory requirements
  • Work with the marketing team to support retail marketing initiatives to drive sales growth and foster long-term customer relationships.
  • Regularly produce and present a range of financial/non-financial reports for the CEO, COO and VP Finance
  • Present executive team with ideas for future retail activities and maintain knowledge of the market place, competitors and trends
  • Monitor store and team performance, analyze and understand the causes of sales trends and initiate strategies to drive sales growth 
  • Influence and support the retail element of the annual budget process
  • Champion company vision/goals and motivate the team effectively with measurable metrics both in the short term and long term
  • Recruit the best talent and maintain continuous flow of talent to enable scaling up
  • Develop customer lists and engage in regular outreach to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Manage and direct store merchandising in terms of visual standards and product adjacency

About the Ideal Candidate

Minimum Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Work Experience: 7+ years of management experience in retail store operations with 2+ years in a multi store operational role preferred.

  • Strong organization skills, process oriented and ability to multi-task in a dynamic, fast paced environment with shifting priorities
  • Strong customer focus. Anticipate customer needs, take action to meet them, continually search for ways to increase customer satisfaction

  • Understanding of retail landscape and ability to recruit key talents in market
  • Deep understanding of inventory reconciliation and inventory process
