Senior Back End Developer

Senior Back End Developer

We are Hex
We’re a new breed of smaller, leaner agencies. A team in the truest sense of the word.
Our strength lies in our ability to bring together deep digital expertise in a team of marketers, digital experts, thinkers, and doers. Working harmoniously to deliver well-rounded creativity, free from the corporate shackles that lead to uninspired work full of me too’s and me three’s.

We have an insatiable curiosity for the world around us, with skills and interests that go far beyond our job descriptions. It makes us a team of hybrids, able to bring fresh perspectives to every project.

We believe great work happens when creative minds feel comfortable to be themselves.

Your challenge
As a Senior Back-End Developer, you will work on one of our exciting brand-new tech platforms: a toy subscription service that excites people about swapping toys, instead of shopping for toys.

Are you passionate about delivering best-in-class digital products? Are you comfortable leading multi-functional teams as well as upholding best practices whilst constantly driving new initiatives? Do you have a proven record of Back-End development of exciting, high quality and disruptive products?

If this ticks your boxes, then we’d love to hear from you!

Your day-to-day

  • Lead on all aspects of back-end development of a project from requirements gathering, UX/UI, build, through to QA and deployment
  • Architect and build solutions based on client requirements and communicate solutions to clients and the team
  • Maintain high coding standards (this is very much a ‘hands-on’ coding role, setting examples with your work)
  • Ensure all code pushed is following the correct standards and git flow branching model and introduce new technologies and development concepts to the business
  • Act as the central point of reference for all back-end development queries within the business
  • Represent us to clients and at key industry events

  • Solid experience with Laravel applications or other modern PHP frameworks
  • Strong knowledge of Automated Testing, including Unit and Integration tests
  • Expert, demonstrable knowledge of OOP and design patterns
  • Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs
  • Strong knowledge of application security

This is you:
  • Knowledge of composer
  • Able to write performant MySQL queries
  • Knowledge of both git and GitHub, git flow
  • Able to break stories into actionable tasks
  • Able to work within a fast-paced, close knit team

This is us
We thrive in a fun environment that brings the best out in us - we nurture developers and want you to constantly learn and grow with us. We want you to be proud of what you do and we praise you for it. We want to be ourselves, bring lots of different interests into the room, and we stick together. You could be a dancer, a gamer, a musician, a parent, a hockey fan, or even that one person that still writes Twilight fan-fiction. It doesn’t matter to us!

We understand how important a healthy work life balance is hence why we want you to be your own leader and offer you autonomy in a way that not many big companies can. The best part: we can still offer work on well-used products and hardcore engineering challenges!
