Halo is looking for a Vice President of Engineering to manage, motivate and grow its engineering team. We are looking to recruit and retain highly motivated professionals who can keep pace with current growth and be valuable contributors to Halo’s success. This position must have at least 3-7 years’ experience managing and agile-focused engineering team in a start-up environment, preferably FinTech. The successful candidate will be able to explain why they can motivate a team, ensure products meet design criteria, deliver a consistent experience for users, provide critical architectural direction when necessary, and maintain a compliance with critical quality standards.
We believe a Vice President of Engineering will have a greater chance of success at Halo if they exhibit the following qualities (in no particular order):
· An entrepreneurial work ethic – you don’t not need big company name behind you to be successful; you have an ability to work in an unstructured environment, and pick up things quickly, etc.
· Oversee staff including hiring, training, and providing professional development.
· Set and manage goals for the team, including overseeing sprints, testing and quality.
· Provide valuable feedback to the executive team to enhance product direction and focus on areas of improvement to optimize development and delivery results.
Job Responsibilities
- Team Management & Building: As we grow the existing engineering team, you will be responsible for recruiting top engineering talent that meet the requirements to join the Halo team and managing & mentoring existing engineers to achieve greater success.
- Quality: Develop standards and procedures to ensure quality standards are met and maintained.
- Collaborate. Understand and collaborate on complete product lifecycle from concept to execution, working closely with the founders and other senior executives to help move the vision forward through product development.
- Team Coaching: Work closely with each member of the team to help them get the best out of themselves. Provide both positive re-enforcement and critical feedback to help each team member exceed expectations. Make crucial decisions on advancement and retention as required.
- Recommend: Recommend new technology and ideas to improve sprints and development efficiency.
- Reporting: Create and regularly produce reports for the company that explains the progress of the team.
- Working closely with management on handling all reporting and employee issues.
- Stay on top of changing development processes to educate and motivate an engineering team.
- Excellent ability to communicate at all levels within an organization required.
Job Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or similar, Master’s Degree a plus.
- 3-5 years of engineering management experience.
- Demonstrated experience successfully leading a development team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
· Ability to motivate and lead others.
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic regarding the challenges of an early stage firm and dynamic environment.
- Experience or high degree of familiarity with Python (Flask, Sqlalchemy, Jinja2), Java, Docker, AWS, Git, SQL, Apache/Nginx/Haproxy Servers, C/C++, and PHP.
