Content Lead

We’re looking for a new addition to our Marketing team to focus on content creation and strategy. At Shippo, we believe in the power of great content. Content can help our customers better run their businesses, establish Shippo as a thought leader in the e-commerce space, and communicate Shippo’s value to diverse audiences. An ideal candidate is passionate about great copy, telling stories, and crafting content that people genuinely love to read. This is a new role for Shippo and comes with the opportunity to define the future of content at Shippo. 
 
WHAT YOU’LL DO
 
  • Short-term this could include:
  • Support a content calendar that includes a regular cadence of different types of first party content. This could include, but is definitely not limited to, blog posts, eBooks, white papers, videos, and interviews.
  • Work with Shippo’s marketing team and leadership to iterate on editorial style + tone & voice guides that we use across all communications.
  • Evaluate ways to evolve and improve Shippo’s newsletter. This could include style, content, cadence, and more. Then execute the improvements. 
  • Medium-term:
  • Become an expert in all things e-commerce, logistics, and shipping. Use that expertise to create editorial style content that keeps Shippo’s audience informed on the latest happenings in space.
  • Identify opportunities to work with Shippo’s existing partners (and find new partners) to co-create and promote content to reach a larger audience.
  • Leverage Shippo’s existing relationships with media publications to secure guest posts, executive bylines, and media coverage.
  • Long-term:
  • Make content a Shippo “product.” 
  • Establish Shippo as a thought leader in the e-commerce and logistics space that customers and prospects use as a resource for the latest news, tips, and advice.
  • You tell us what you should do and what you want to do. The ideal candidate will work with leadership to identify new high-leverage activities and opportunities for content at Shippo. Our job is to set you up for success and let you take ownership as a marketer.
     
REQUIREMENTS
 
  • 4+ years experience in copywriting or journalism, ideally in a B2B environment.
  • Strong external and internal communication skills. The ability to clearly communicate Shippo’s value and offerings to diverse external audiences + communicate goals, tactics, and progress to internal stakeholders are critical for this role. 
  • Superior writing skills. You’ll need to demonstrate you can successfully write and edit content for a specialized industry.
  • Understand the connection between content and SEO. You’ll need to create content that helps Shippo’s SEO efforts.
  • Ability to think critically and analytically when evaluating projects. You don’t need to be a data analyst, but you should be able to identify success metrics, track, and report the impacts of projects.
  • Strong knowledge and/or previous experience in e-commerce and logistics is a huge plus. You don’t need it, but you will need to become a subject matter expert and understand the space deeply in order to create powerful content.
  • Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or other relevant field and/or equivalent professional experience.
