ROLE SUMMARY:
The Corporate Controller (CC) provides overall leadership of the company's global corporate accounting, tax, shared service center accounting, controls and treasury functions. The CC is responsible for setting global accounting policy that is in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and standards and ensuring that the company’s business processes are effective and efficient. The CC will, in coordination with functional leadership, also provide strategic oversight of global income tax function and ensure compliance with international, federal and state/local filing requirements. This role will oversee the internal control framework, ensuring that it is designed to support the company’s financial reporting objectives & risk-mitigation framework, deliver quality financial information to the business and external stakeholders on a timely basis, and ensure that the accounting team across the organization has the skills, abilities and resources necessary to achieve their objectives. This position is responsible for the following areas: technical accounting, all operational accounting (GL, AP, AR, OTC, MTD, RTR, Fixed Assets) at both HQ and international locations, monthly 2 day close, internal and external financial reporting (both GAAP and IFRS), treasury, corporate income tax and sales and use taxes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Business Partner
- Partnering with the CFO to determine accounting and tax implications for all material business decisions; collaborate with the CFO to improve overall company performance.
- Be a driven trusted business partner to CFO, Leadership team and respective Finance organization
- Operational Accounting & Internal Controls
- Oversee the Company’s global 2-day monthly closing process, ensure that financial statements are produced in accordance with GAAP, and that your team efficiently prepares financial reporting that provides insights to Company management.
- Develop and publish financial statements and reports for executive team and for consolidation
- Ensure that all accounting departments are in adherence to generally accepted accounting principles and the Company's global accounting policies, processes and internal controls.
- Ensure that all new accounting standards are adopted across and that financial systems, controls and reporting are appropriable updated
- Ensure consistency of accounting treatment and reporting across all domestic and international accounting operations and accounting periods
- Oversee the company’s manufacturing accounting operations
- Ensure that operational and design effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting is maintained.
- Assess and implement recommendations from Internal Audit team to improve the internal control framework
- Work with external partners including auditors, bankers, and tax advisors to build relationships, increase the Company’s capabilities and incorporate best practices into the Accounting team and across the company
- Systems and Automation
- Provide executive thought leadership (in partnership with Info Systems team) to ERP roadmap. Ensure that the ERP system evolves from a basic implementation in a single market to one that supports on a global basis, is robust, helps the organization to scale via automation, allows for sound reporting and ensures strong internal controls
- Drive continuous business process improvements through the design and implementation of new technologies, overseeing robust and accurate business requirements, reporting, and testing for all system changes impacting Accounting
- Leadership and Management
- Hire, retain and engage a team of high caliber professionals. Provide sound managerial guidance while also being a great coach and mentor
- Provide leadership to staff that includes, but is not limited to: Assistant Controller, European/Int'l Controller, General Ledger Manager(s), Cost Accounting Manager, Manufacturing Controller and AP/Payroll function lead
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 15 years related experience, gained through a combination of public accounting and private industry experience
- At least four years of public accounting experience at a national respected firm. Big 4 experience highly preferred
- Certified Public Accountant, or equivalent
- Hands-on experience implementing, using and evolving an ERP system
- Middle-market or public company experience is preferred
- Experience in CPG industry and/or e-commerce is preferred
- Strong understanding of process and the desire to manage and implement improvements
- Proven thought leader & excellent manager/coach with a track record of high team engagement scores
- A team player who makes those around him/her better
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high growth environment
- Experience consolidating and working with international operations preferred
- Experience helping to get new markets set-up and operational from an accounting, tax, and statutory perspective preferred
