Senior Localization Engineer

We are currently looking for Localization Engineer. We can consider candidates for two locations: Portland Oregon and Vancouver, Canada. Please make sure you apply to the correct postings. For Portland location, this position will be partially from home and partially from client's location in Hillsboro.  
 
The Localization Engineer (LE) is a solver of problems, and creator of solutions. As technology changes, the LE often has to come up with ways to do things, that have not yet been sorted out. The LE is responsible for the technical aspects of getting the user-visible elements of software, marketing materials, and many other items translated, while ensuring everything functions as intended.  The LE wears many hats, from consulting with software developers, to fixing defects in HTML/CSS or formatting files in many languages, in many DTP applications.
 
In your job, you will: 
  • Analyze document, software, video and website source files for quotation
  • Analyze and preparation of source files for translation project workflows
  • Review source content for Internationalization and quality issues
  • Post-process translated files
  • Assist project managers developing schedule and budget
  • Configure translation tools/workflows (CAT and MT), creation of translation projects in CAT tools
  • Scrub and fix localization and internationalization bugs
  • Formatting/Desktop publish of translated files (Adobe CS, MS Office, HTML etc.)
  • Educate customers and team members about L10N and I18N
  • Support Project Managers, and Account Managers as needed
  • Assist with quoting project work
  • Travel, as needed to meet with customers
  • Participate in discovery meetings and collect information needed for project quotes and execution
  • Run the internationalization assessment
  • Prepare presentations as needed
  • Distribute work to junior LE and oversee completion
  • Mentor and manage other, more junior LEs 
  • Evaluate new localization technologies and lead their implementation if needed
  • Provide test cases for QA

You: 
  • Have at least 7 years of localization engineering experience, and at least two years of managing others 
  • Are able to automate engineering tasks
  • Have a knowledge of DTP software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, FrameMaker, etc.)
  • Have a strong knowledge of CAT & terminology tools; Translation Management systems (e.g. SDL TMS)
  • Have a Knowledge of machine translation
  • Familiar with scripting languages (Perl, Python, etc.)
  • Have experience in content management System (CMS) experience
  • Are able to work across multiple platforms (Windows, Apple, Android, iOS, Linux, etc.)
  • Have an advanced knowledge of XML, HTML and XLIFF formats
  • Quality focused and detail oriented - you pay attention to details and can’t stand sloppy work
  • Multilingual  - you speak at least one foreign language (preferred, but exceptions can be made)
  •  A hard worker - and you can prove it by your previous experience Computer savvy - you consider yourself as a technical person and get excited about new technologies, applications etc.
  •  Able to prioritize.  You can organize multiple, sometimes competing tasks, and focus on the urgent items first, without letting the other things fall through the cracks 
  • An excellent  communicator in written and spoken English - you feel comfortable presenting your ideas to others, whether in person, or remotely 
  • Driven - you’re not someone who needs to be micromanaged and you don’t wait around for problems or quality concerns to hit others’ radar before brainstorming a fix
  •  A problem solver - you solve issues that rarely have textbook solutions “Let me figure this out” is a sentence you use often 
  • Open to receiving feedback - you focus on solutions and improvements rather than finding excuses why something doesn’t work. You “attack the problem, not the person.” 
  • Positive - you have a “nothing is impossible attitude”.
  • You believe that everything can be done A self-starter - you see a clear link between your actions and their outcomes. You don’t sit around and wait for others to tell you what to do 
  • A student of life - you work continuously on being better in whatever you do and are interested in improving your skills. You can find online resources to learn things you don’t know 
  • A people person - through effective communication and the right personality type you can get the best out of the people on your team 
  • Clever and fast - you understand things quickly and are not confused about simple things. 
  • Resourceful - you have a head full of good ideas
 
Nice to have: 
  • Knowledge of more than one language (human, not machine: e.g. English, Tagalog, etc.)
  • Programming/Development experience and ability to write/read code (C#, C++, Java, etc.)
